Last year at this time, I blogged about My Favorite Covers of 2016. It was so much fun to look back over a year’s worth of wonderful Christian fiction covers that I decided to make it an annual thing!
Here are…
The following are in no particular order. I set out to select covers from a range of sub genres and publishers, since it’s exciting to celebrate the breadth and depth of the work authors are producing.
I claim no design skill and no impartiality whatsoever. These are simply the covers that I, personally, liked best.
Jane of Austin by Hillary Manton Lodge
This cover is delightfully unique and sophisticated. Everything about it feels fresh to me — the lavender background color, the art work, the dress that ends in a skyline.
Her outfit! Her hair. Her expression. Her outfit! She’s wearing a muff, people.
If I’m Found by Terri Blackstock
Chilling! This frosty photograph paired with the first person title If I’m Found, paired with a font that looks like handwriting, combine to pack a very suspenseful punch.
Enchanted, A Christmas Collection by Melissa Tagg
This cover is everything I could want in a Christmas cover! It has a magical quality. It’s romantic and evocative and wonderfully snowy. Plus, I love the title and title font.
Engaged in Trouble by Jenny B. Jones
Eye-catching and interest-catching! I’m a fan of these bold colors and of the charming, beautifully balanced graphics. It’s exquisitely done, down to the tiniest detail.
How Sweet the Sound by Amy K. Sorrells
This cover evokes such a sense of place, doesn’t it? It’s nostalgic and sweet and lovely and it makes me want to open the book and visit its story world.
With You Always by Jody Hedlund
Her vivid green dress and light hair contrast fabulously with the backdrop. This cover tells me that change is coming for our heroine and our heroine’s posture tells me she’s determined to meet those changes. I can almost smell the smoke!
Classy, striking artwork plus appealing colors create a rich tapestry for the title Perennials. At a glance, I can tell that this is a women’s fiction novel.
Portrait of Vengeance by Carrie Stuart Parks
Stunning and spooky at the same time. There’s an eerie stillness to this cover that makes me wonder about the dangers hiding in this gorgeous place.
The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner
Modern and fun! I adore the cascade of hearts, the graphic typewriter, the intriguing title, and the contemporary title font.
Did I forget any 2017 gems? Which 2017 covers did you love most?

I love your choices! And you introduced me to some new authors, too. You didn’t mention that the cover of “If I’m Found” by Terri Blackstock lines up with the covers of the other two books in the series, making one entirely unique picture. Pretty clever!
Becky Wade says
I’m so glad you mentioned that, Karen! I hadn’t realized that the three covers, when placed side-by-side, create one complete photo. Ahhhh! SUCH a cool cover concept! Now I admire the cover of If I’m Found even more. 🙂
Linda says
Great choices! I also loved the cover of True to You because that dress is gorgeous! And The Esther Paradigm with the colorful border and the pretty white dress.
Becky Wade says
Thanks, Linda! I, too, find a pretty dress on a cover very, very appealing. I was so pleased with the way True to You’s cover turned out!

Very nicely chosen indeed. I would add:
* Lady Jayne Disappears – Joanna Davidson Politano
* The House on Foster Hill – Jaime Jo Wright
* Lady Betrayed – Tamara Leigh
* Can’t Help Falling – Kara Isaac
* Crown of Souls – Ronie Kendig
* The Lacemaker – Laura Frantz

You’ve mentioned some wonderful covers, Amy! Kara’s Can’t Help Falling actually came out in 2016. I so admired that one, that I put it on last year’s list. 🙂 Kara’s 2017 book, Then There Was You, also has a terrific cover, in my opinion.
Ronie’s Tox made last year’s list and — really — I easily could have put him on the list again this year. Gorgeous guy. Great covers.
I hadn’t seen Tamara’s Lady Betrayed, so I’m thankful to you for calling my attention to that one. It’s stunning! The heroine appears to have a war waging all around her which makes me want to pick up the book to find out how she forges her way.
Amy M. says
My apologies for those that weren’t released last year. I was going by the list I read in 2017. (NOTE to self: check release date next time!) I realize Laura Frantz’s “The Lacemaker” was officially released in 2018, but I read it at the end of last year so it slipped in, too. Thank you for overlooking my mistakes. “Falling For You” will definitely be making my list of 2018 Favorite Covers 🙂

What a great representation of some fresh, creative cover ideas. I also loved “Lady Jayne Disappears” (I see it mentioned above), “Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate, and “The Mark of the King by Jocelyn Green”. . . . . to name a few. I am a total cover love geek; I remember books by their covers.
Becky Wade says
I’m a cover love geek, too, Rebecca! The covers you mentioned are awesome.
Kelly Scott says
The Long Way Home by Charles Martin
Becky Wade says
Right! With the guitar/road? That one’s moody, thoughtful, evocative.
Jody Hedlund says
Aww, Becky! Thank you for putting my cover in your list! I’m truly honored! Speaking of cover love, I ADORE the cover of your upcoming release! In fact, just a week or so ago, a young reader came into our church library and was checking out one of your books. I HAD to pull up your upcoming cover and show it to her. It was a definite moment of booklover cover geekiness! There was a tiny bit of squealing involved.
Becky Wade says
Thank you! I love the cover of Falling for You, too. That dress + her expression + the colors + the model and her expression. I’m delighted with it. The story of you and the reader at your church library has truly brightened my day. 🙂
Carolyn Bryant says
In His Eyes by Stephenia H. McGee. I love Civil War romance novels, and this cover was so appropriate and beautiful for a story set in that era.
Becky Wade says
Ooh! There are so many pretty shades of green in that cover, Carolyn.
Melissa Romine says
Great choices, Becky!!
Melissa Tagg’s Enchanted has such a lovely cover that I bought it even though I’d already read two of the Novellas!
I liked Kara Isaac’s Then There was You and Lisa Wingate’s Before We Were Yours and of course, True to You and Then Came You. I mean, the dress and the man! 😊
Becky Wade says
I had a great time choosing the cover model for Then Came You! It was a job perk, for sure.
I’m a fan of the all the covers you mentioned. 🙂
Emilee says
Great list. Enchanted is so pretty! I would also add True to you, of course, and I really like The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay.
Becky Wade says
Yes! The Austen Escape is wonderful! It’s bold, unique, and branded with that Katherine Reay “look” they’ve given all of her books.
Nicole Santana says
I love the covers you mentioned, Becky. I would add A Moonbow Night by Laura Frantz. The model is pretty and the image of the Moonbow is gorgeous! And, I would also add your cover, too. True to You is a stunning cover. I absolutely L❤VE the dress the model is wearing. 😊

I, too, really liked Jane of Austin, Enchanted, and the Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck – they really appealed to my eye. I also really loved the Esther Paradigm – I thought that was beautiful. Denise Hunter’s Sweetbriar Cottage, Susan May Warren’s Rescue Me, Your True to You, Katherine Reay’s Austin Escape, Andrea Boyd’s Heart’s Desire, Rachel Hauck’s Writing Desk, and Kara Issac’s Then There Was You were also great covers that really made me want to read the book! 🙂
Ronya Ervin says
Wow Becky…such a great variety of books!
I love Jen Turano’s cover. It catches my attention every time it’s in my range of vision. Although I love beautiful covers, they aren’t generally what I base wanting to read a book on. After seeing this book for the first time, without knowing anything about the story, I knew I wanted to read it.
Melissa Tagg’s Enchanted is truly enchanting! My best friend buys/borrows most of her books in Kindle form – but after seeing this cover, she had to have a physical copy as well! I just want to step right into the picture and spend some time there.
A couple of others that caught my attention in 2017 were:
Denise Hunter’s Sweetbriar Cottage. I really enjoy Denise’s books, but unfortunately I’m not caught up with them yet. I have no idea if this is part of a series or not, but this beautiful cover draws me in each time I see it.
Karen Witemeyer’s Heart On the LIne is another fabulous cover. I love the sparkle in her eyes and the playful expression on her face. Paired with the details in the telegraph equipment and setting I love this cover.
The cover of A Note Yet Unsung, the third book in Tracie Peterson’s Belmont Mansion series caused me to buy the whole series (since I CAN’T read books out of order…haha). I love the way the color of her eyes match some of the color in the ceiling of the gorgeous theater. The theater itself is enough to draw my attention, but her beautiful dress and the graceful determination on her face enticed me to look closer.
And you of course didn’t list your own books, but both Then Came You and True to You have fantastic covers. I love Garner’s casual attire with the extravagant Bradfordwood behind him and in contrast Nora’s beautiful dress…softened on the cover a little with the rows of hedges between her and Bradfordwood. I really enjoy the font used on this series. And I know already that Willow’s gorgeous cover will make the 2018 list! 🙂
