By the time you read this I will be in beautiful St. Pete, Florida, attending the Novelists, Inc. Conference (NINC). This conference is different from most since it is all published authors and it focuses on business. Lots of business.
NINC has become very relevant over the last few years, due to the Indie publishing explosion where authors publish their own books. Industry marketing and business people love to attend NINC to pitch their wares. Some even sponsor part of the conference or at least buy all of us a meal or two. Some of this year’s sponsors are BookBub, IngramSpark, Reedsy and Draft2Digital.
Amazon KPD, Createspace and ACX will sponsor lunch during NINC’s Master Class where we hear case studies and discuss Business, Marketing, Craft and Creativity. We’ll have Night Owl sessions sponsored by Kobo and Vellum. Our big Saturday night seafood dinner is sponsored by Pronoun. Fitting, don’t you think.
If all of this sounds like Greek to our readers, that’s okay. It sounds like Greek to me, too. But I’m going to learn. I like to stay informed, especially these days when we have so many publishing choices and challenges. While I still write for traditional publishers, I have a toe or two in the Indie market, too. I think it’s important to stay up-to-date, no matter your line of work.
But it won’t be all work, of course. We’ll be at a beach resort so sitting through a workshop will be tough. But we do take walks on the beach and along the meandering tropical paths all throughout the property. And the food around the hotel is just as good as the food in the hotel. So we’ll need those walks.
In honor of my final conference of this busy year, I thought I’d show you some tropical photos so you won’t feel sorry for me while I work hard. This has been a good year conference-wise. I’ve talked to readers everywhere from Las Vegas to Milwaukee and even in good ol’ Huntsville, Alabama and I’ve visited with writers at each of these venues. I had a great time at ACFW in Nashville and saw some of my best friends there. So I hope as fall settles in, I can get back to a good schedule. I have some contracts in the works so I will be busy blessed. Until then, here you go. Enjoy my pictures. And tell me what kind of business trips you’ve taken where you combined fun with work. That’s the best of both worlds, isn’t it?
A scene above I used for description in a book.
Oh, and you are all invited to this event, to get you in the mood for winter!

I’ve heard of NINC and have considered joining, but I haven’t made the plunge yet. However, hearing about all the focus on the industry that they do makes me think I might want to reconsider. Thanks, Lenora, for the description of the conference. Oh, and the beach photos are gorgeous as well. 😉
