To me, the first week of September always feels like the end of summer and the beginning of fall.
Saying good-bye to summer is bittersweet, isn’t it? Mine was full of many happy memories. My college-age daughters were home, and so family life was busier and noisier in a wonderful, crazy way.
I loved having a special trip just with my college daughters to New Orleans, a time to catch up and spend time together that we don’t have as often anymore.
My oldest son (now graduated from college and working) made it home for his birthday, and we celebrated by going to a Tigers versus Red Sox Game together.
In July, we were thankful to have the opportunity to fly out to Cape Cod, Massachusetts for a vacation. (And of course, I had to sneak in seeing a couple of lighthouses while I was there!)
By August we were already taking our oldest daughters back to school and spent a weekend nearby at King’s Island and Newport Aquarium in Cincinnati.
August wrapped up with my sixteen year old son getting his driver’s license. Yay! That means this fall I’m taxi-mom to only one child!
As fall begins, I’m excited about all the possibilities yet to come! While there aren’t as many trips on the calendar, there are plenty of book releases. If you missed the news last month, the first two books in my Lost Princesses series released: ALWAYS and EVERMORE.
And I’m excited to *show-off* the covers for the final two books in the series: FOREMOST and HEREAFTER. Aren’t they pretty? They release in September and October and you can pre-order them here and here.
Thanks for letting me share a little bit about my summer! Now it’s your turn! Did you do anything fun or memorable over the summer? We’d love to hear about it.

Love the new covers, Jody! Hereafter is particularly stunning with that deep purple dress against the red foliage. Gorgeous!
My college-aged daughter was half a country away for an internship this summer and my college-aged son studied abroad in Germany for a month, so we are actually in the opposite position of having our kids around MORE now that school is underway. Ha! Grad school is around the corner for Bethany, though, and my heart hurts at the thought of her truly leaving the nest behind.

Oh that’s right! I remember your post about your daughter’s internship (and your trip to Victoria BC!). And how fun for your son to study abroad in Germany! I’m sure you got a taste of what it’s going to be like with a much quieter house. It’s such an adjustment! But I’m sure, like me, you’re excited to see them stretching their wings! 🙂

Lovely covers–looking forward to reading them!
In May, I revisited London (3rd time) and Edinburgh (2nd time) on my own for 2 weeks.

Jody, thanks for sharing your summer fun! BTW, did you post your 2nd picture upside down for a reason? 😉
I moved from Texas to Indiana last summer after my husband passed away. My 2 daughters, grandson & I share a home now and we have enjoyed traveling a bit this summer. We surprised my (now) 96-year-old mom who lives in NC. Going to the Creation Museum and the Ark in KY was amazing! Ending our fun summer visiting our old stomping grounds in Traverse City, MI, then heading up to the Upper Peninsula Michigan for a few days was such a blessing. Being with my girls and grandson, enjoying God’s gorgeous creation has been a delight!

Any reason why that one pic is upside down? 😉
Jody Hedlund says
That’s so weird! None of the pictures are upside down for me in my browser! Wonder why it’s showing up that way for some people?
Lori says
That’s weird! Keeping life interesting, I suppose! 😀 We all need a reason to smile now & then, so just think of it as giving away a smile. 🙂

I just finished reading Always – all I can say is that I’m glad they are coming out in quick succession because this prequel was gripping!
My traveling this summer was all about family! I went to eastern Canada with one of my sister-in-laws (we are both widows) for a whale watching trip, and a few weeks later I went to Door County (Wisconsin) with my two sisters-in-laws. Both trips were great for sharing, eating, and hiking. In between I went to California for a baby shower for my daughter-in-law, baby was due on Labor Day and seems to be in no hurry to arrive. So of course my next trip is in a few weeks to meet this new family member!

Just returned from Juneau, Alaska, where daughter is working with the US Forestry Service at Mendenhall Glacier. Majestic, awe-inspiring, gorgeous … One can run out of words! Love that you visited New Orleans, as son is a grad student there and it’s one of,my favorite cities! ACFW 2021!

On the 15th of August my husband and I went to Sugar Creek Ohio . This was a trip to celebrate our 50th wedding Anniversary. Our daughter put us up in the Carlisle Inn in Sugar Creek for a five day stay. Our Anniversary date was the 19th. We celebrated by going to Charm Ohio. I’ve read so much about Charm in my Amish Fiction stories that I just wanted to say I’d been there. Such a nice little cozy town. A place were the Amish go to shop. I got lucky and found a place there that sold the faceless Amish dolls. I bought a girl doll and a boy doll. Later that same day we visited the Hershberger’s Farm in Millersburg Ohio. While in Sugar Creek we visited Weavers furniture and ordered a very nice dinette table and chair set made to our specifications. It had been a long time since we had been away and we enjoyed it very much.

I traveled with students to Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. What a joy to watch them experience things outside the US for the first time! We enjoyed the extraordinary scenery and the little things, like gelato and warm, soft pretzels. Umm! I can taste them now.
