Nashville and the Christy Awards

November 8, 2019 By Becky Wade

I’m currently in Nashville!

For the third year in a row, I’ve journeyed to The Athens of the South aka Nashvegas aka The Buckle of the Bible Belt aka Music City USA in November in order to participate in the Art of Writing Conference and the Christy Awards.

His Highness and I arrived on Tuesday and that night I attended a dinner for Bethany House employees, authors, and authors’ spouses. So much fun!

The next morning, several readers joined ten Christian authors for breakfast at a restaurant called Fido. Many of the readers were local, but many drove for hours to be there. I wish you could have experienced the happy volume of a room full of people, talking passionately about books.

My parents are on the left! They flew to Nashville to attend the Christys this year and to spend time sight-seeing.
On the left, Alysha from For the Love of Christian Fiction. On the right, Stacey from The Great Adventure.
My wonderful editor, Raela Schoenherr.

I spent the afternoon sitting and learning and gaining inspiration during the Art of Writing conference. Then I changed into my fancy dress (and gold shoes!) for the Christy Award ceremony.

With Katie Ganshert on the left and Courtney Walsh on the right.
This one’s fuzzy, because my mom snapped it from her spot at our dinner table. 🙂 I was incredibly honored when Falling for You received a Christy Award in the Contemporary Romance category.

L to R: Amy, me, Crissy, my mom, and Joy. Amy, Crissy, and Joy are incredibly supportive reader friends who traveled to Nashville from Florida and Pennsylvania for the event.

It was an AMAZING day!

His Highness, my parents, and I are staying in Nashville for a few additional days in order to enjoy the sights. But when I return home to Dallas and my quiet, solitary writing desk, memories of the breakfast, conference, and Christy Awards will keep me warm for weeks.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know that my first Christian romance, My Stubborn Heart, has been given a beautiful new cover!

I’ve been to Chattanooga and Memphis but never Nashville. I loved seeing your photos with the various authors and your family members. Congratulations!

I was born in Nashville! My mom and I moved to Missouri when I was still an infant. I have been back a few times, most recently was in the spring of this year while visiting our besties that moved to Chattanooga last year.

Congratulations, Becky! I loved that book and the series!

I have been to Memphis (Graceland), Chattanooga, and Gatlinburg, another wonderful Christian city. Every store welcomes you with Christian love. My son’s company is based in Nashville, so he travels there frequently and shares many of the sights and places he attends. He has been amazed by the number of electric scooters everywhere.

    Again, well-deserved congratulations!

I hate that I wasn’t able to meet you at Fido’s (ugh..stupid work!), but am sure your ears are most thankful since I’m prone to high squealing in your presence. 🙂 Congratulations on your win – definitely deserved and THAT dress and THOSE shoes??? <3 <3 <3

Many thanks, Amy! I was so pleased with my dress and shoes because both are much more comfortable than they appear. 🙂

Congratulations! How special that your parents could join you too! I was able to watch your keynote talk, and even though I couldn’t see the pictures it was very entertaining. I hope you can keep following your writing path as God leads you for many years to come, your books always point to some truth that I need to see!

It was very special to have my parents present! I’m sorry you weren’t able to see the photos that accompanied my keynote, Linda. I think I may post them to social media soon.

And thanks for the encouragement! I hope to continue to follow this writing path as long as God leads. I’m honored that you’ve found truth in my novels. God always speaks truth to me through the writing of them. Inevitably, what the character needs to hear is what I need to hear, too.

Congrats on another Christy! Yes, I’ve been to Nashville (research) and loved it. Among the highlights: Seeing Scotty McCreery and legend Connie Smith at the Grand Ole Opry. Shopping for boots. Attending a Nashville Sounds game. And spending time researching at the Nashville and Vanderbilt libraries! And I loved
“My Stubborn Heart!” Matt is the swooniest!

Nashville was such fun! It’s always great to connect with other readers and meet in person those I recognize from online. Your speech was, in true Becky fashion, humorous and God-focused… so powerful! I will be praying for you as you return to your desk!
