I’m thrilled to announce the arrival of a brand new medieval YA series, The Lost Princesses!
To kick off the series, you won’t want to miss ALWAYS, a prequel novella, that sets the stage for the three full length novels that follow (and are releasing this fall 2019).
I can already hear some of you saying that you don’t like novellas, that they’re too short and the stories always feel incomplete or rushed. Yes, it IS challenging for authors to fit a full and fulfilling story into a shorter novel. But I hope you won’t miss out on this novella because it provides important backstory for the books to come.
As one reviewer said: “This story may be short, but it packs an impressive punch! Jody Hedlund has woven a dynamic story with endearing characters that will have you holding your breath and rapidly turning pages for more!”
I can also hear some of you saying that you don’t like YA (Young Adult) novels, that they’re not deep enough or have immature characters. Yes, often YA characters are a bit younger, the action is a bit more intense, and the romance a bit sweeter. But I’ve had non-teen readers telling me that they’ve loved the series just as much as my adult books.
As another reviewer said: “I am a longtime fan of Author Jody Hedlund, and I can’t believe I had never read one of the books in her Young Adult genre. I realize after enjoying Always I have been missing some excellent reading.”
Unlike my previous series (Noble Knights), the Lost Princesses leans more toward fairy tale than historical. So if, like me, you love princess fairy tales set in medieval times, then this series might be right for you!

I just finished this novella last night and WOW! I am so glad I only have to wait until Tuesday for the first full length novel! This one starts with action and doesn’t stop! I am already hooked! For those who balk at trying YA, I don’t think you’re reading the right YA – definitely give this one a try.

Drat, posted before I got to say… I love fairy tales, especially woven into historical or semi-historical settings. The Wild Swans is one of the most intriguing to me, but I also love how many variations of Cinderella you can find in so many different countries. Not sure if I have a favorite fairy tale overall, but I love digging into many versions of old classics!
Edward Arrington says
I enjoyed the book, even though I’m not much into fairy tales. I think we can learn from all kinds of books. I feel I can always count on Jody Hedlund to weave those life lessons into her stories. They entertain but go deeper.

I do enjoy fairy tales especially when they take one of the older themes and make it today relevant.
Love Beauty and the Beast because it speaks of looking beyond the visible and to look for the true beauty within. It’s a lesson we should all take to heart.

I love fairy tales! I’m pretty much a sucker for them, whether it’s a beautifully illustrated children’s book, a retelling, the classic with non-Disney details (Little Mermaid felt like she danced on knives, Cinderella’s sisters cut off parts of their feet to fit into the glass slipper, etc.) or even the Disney version, I love them all. I’m looking forward to checking out this new series (and Noble Knights, because I apparently didn’t look hard enough before to find that series, which sounds right up my alley)!
Ola Norman says

I enjoyed the “Noble Knights” series too! Note to readers looking to read/buy this series–Amazon shows it as “An Uncertain Choice” series. (It’s based on the title of the 1st novel) Still the same series just the naming is different!
Joyce says
I love fairy tales. Cinderella has been a favorite since before I can remember!

I still love Cinderella. Good vs. Evil, the nice girl wins in the end, and who wouldn’t love Prince Charming…I mean a man who will travel the ends of the earth trying a shoe on any and every foot just to find the one he loves? Yep, he’s the man.
Angie Quantrell says
Yay for you! Congratulations on the new books coming out. Wow. I do love fairy tales. I prefer them with happy endings, though I see why some authors enjoy messing with the formula and creating dire endings. I don’t really have a favorite, I just enjoy them. 🙂

I have always loved fairytales, taught a unit when I was a 5th grade teacher for 23 years, and have been enjoying them with my grandchildren. I have really enjoyed the Disney live action releases in recent years – Aladdin this year. While I don’t really have a favorite, I particularly liked Beauty, Robin McKinley’s retelling. Another version of Beauty and the Beast is a childhood favorite, East of the Sun West of the Moon. Hundreds of Cinderella stories exist, including a Native American version called The Rough-faced Girl. Looking forward to this series.

I love fairytales. Cinderella has been my favorite. Also, in historical fiction, my favorite has always been the medieval time period. I’m not sure if it’s the knights in shining armor or damsels in distress. Maybe it’s just that particular troop that I enjoy.
