Two weeks ago, I shared that HarperCollins and I filmed some video vignettes for the Carnton series on location at Carnton in Franklin, Tennessee. We had such fun!
Here’s the first of those videos!
I’ll share the other videos once they’re edited and ready—and would love to hear your thoughts on this one!
I love making these videos for several reasons. I enjoy sharing real history. And I also enjoy helping the location to “come alive” for readers who may not have had the opportunity to visit these settings for my novels.
HarperCollins and I also filmed six video vignettes for my Belle Meade novels.
Here’s the vignette about the old Harding Cabin, where Uncle Bob—a real person and also a character in the Belle Meade novels—lived for a portion of his life.
I never visit Belle Meade but what I don’t also visit that old cabin.
Does seeing images or videos of settings of novels you’ve read help you to better picture the locale and characters in your mind? Or do you prefer to let your imagination fill in all the blanks? : )
Thanks for sharing—or indulging <g>—my love of history. I never tire of walking in the footsteps of those who’ve gone before us and of learning from them.
Lastly, I’m headed to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho this week for our annual writers’ retreat—and I’m BEYOND EXCITED! I’ll be posting pics every day from our retreat on my Instagram account. So if we’re not connected there yet, let’s do that!
Here’s a picture from our retreat last year…
Be sure and share your thoughts on the first Carnton video!
Much love from Nashville,
Tammy

I love getting to see pictures and video of the settings for books. (I enjoy visiting them in person even more!) The video of Uncle Bob’s cabin was particularly helpful as it confirmed I had pictured it correctly in my mind while reading. I thought the first Carnton video was very well done and I look forward to watching the rest as they become available.

The Carnton video is beautiful! I have loved reading these books and look forward to the next one. The history at Carnton that your books are built around is so important because they so well describe how the lives of ordinary people were affected by the war. How much lives are changed in the blink of an eye to unimaginable heartache and tragedy. Thank you for this glimpse into our country’s history that we all need to be aware of. These people who were not fight the actual battles were forced to fight a totally different battle. And with the help of God, were able to emerge on the other side as stronger individuals who did not lose their faith in such difficult times. Thank you, Tamara, for this gift of history!

You said it so well, Kathy, about the debt we owe to those who came before us and for their sacrifice. Thank you for sharing today!

The video on Carnton really brings to life the majesty of the home and property as well as the devastation of lives during the Battle of Franklin. What a sobering reminder of history!

Amen on the sobering reminder of history, Suzanne. Thank you for sharing!

The Carnton video is excellent. I loved both Carnton novels so much, and seeing the house and the burial site made the story all the more real. These blood stains! What a memory for a house to keep.
