Rested and refreshed

October 4, 2016 By Tamera Alexander

What’s the last vacation you’ve taken?

Me? Hilton Head Island in South Carolina—last week!

We love HHI and usually end up visiting there every 2-3 years or so. I love the beach. Only, I like it best in fall and winter. Strange, maybe. But since I’ve never been a sun goddess (I’m more the burn and peel variety), I love walking the beach instead of laying out. And give me a comfy hoodie and yoga pants over a swimsuit any day! LOL.

Path to the beach. The weather was perfect!

Did you know that…

  • HHI is 12 miles long and 5 miles wide? And that the island was the first Eco-planned destination in the United States?
  • Warmed year-round by the Gulf Stream, the average daytime temp in Hilton Head is 70 degrees. The average ocean temp is 69 degrees.
  • HHI boasts 39,000 permanent residents—and 2.5 million visitors annually. Which is another reason I enjoy visiting during off-season!
  • Our favorite place to eat at HHI? Skull Creek Boathouse. We went there three times during the week, and each meal was delicious!
  • I averaged over 10,000 steps per day when we were there. Love walking the beach!

On our last evening

Now it’s back to reality and to low carb/Keto eating. I didn’t cheat that much, but I did have some bread (so good) and some ice cream* (be still my heart), and yet I already love being back into my routine. I’m working hard on the third book in the Belle Meade Plantation series entitled To Wager Her Heart, which is scheduled to release next fall. The cover should be ready to share soon!

*I’m making some Keto ice cream (low carb, gluten free) this week and will be sure to report back!

What’s the last vacation (or even a stay-cation) you’ve taken? Was it restful and refreshing (hope so!)? Where did you go and what did you do?

You’re welcome to come visit me and walk with me on the beach anytime! (although I don’t recommend winter in Michigan). BTW, I still have hope for Ben and Kelsey….

I’m on my way, Lynn. And oh, I so wish about B & K. I’d love to be in-law’d with you, woman. : )

I’ve lived in the South forever and still haven’t made it there. It’s on my list now for sure. ❤️

It’s so pretty. Although, right now they’re boarding up while Matthew is headed their way. SO grateful for the timeliness of our vacation.

I had a nice staycation this summer. When you live near the coast it can be easy to take it for granted. But I never want to do that. So we did a lot of resting and walking on the beach after I’d finished a multi-book contract. I wasn’t burned out all the way but I looked and felt exhausted and needed some down time. So those few weeks of a slower pace sure did help. God’s world is so amazing!! It’s always good to stop and smell the ocean breeze. I’m glad you had fun with your family!! Your photos are beautiful!

Good for you, Lenora! And I understand that feeling. Been there. So glad you got the time to refresh again. So important to do that. Hugs!

What a handsome family you have (Murphy included, of course!). I love going to the beach, but I’m definitely a sun goddess type. I’m flying out in the morning for New York. Spending several days there with some girlfriends. I’ve been a couple of times, but there’s always something to do in the city that never sleeps. Looking forward to hitting the usual tourist hot spots, but am also excited about visiting a Tenement Museum, as well as taking a tour of the New York Public Library. Even on vacation, I’m a book nerd :-).

Ha, thanks, Amy!Hope you’re having a marvelous time in NYC! Fun city!I love seeing the Broadway shows. Last time we were there, Kels and I saw Wicked, and oh…it was so good. Have fun and please enjoy the library and the museums! Safe journeys.

We had the best vacation in the spring! Big road trip to the Pacific Northwest, 4,000+ miles round trip (my husband loves to drive and our 4 kids were all strapped in so I didn’t have to keep a constant eye on them, mommy vacay!) We spent about a week in the Spokane area visiting with my sister’s family and exploring northern Idaho (LOVE!!) then did a quick drive through of Yellowstone on the way home. (Last time we went west we stopped at Mt. Rushmore and the Ingalls Homestead in DeSmet, SD) We had fabulous family time, very laid back, and everyone loved the fascinating landscapes!

How fun! And 4,000 miles, Beth. Yowsa! You rock, woman! Spokane is so pretty, Idaho too. I’ve never been to Yellowstone but can imagine how beautiful it is as well. Sounds like a great road trip. Those family times are the best! Thanks for sharing!

The last vacation I had was 3 years ago. I visited friends in Hong Kong for 2 weeks. Did I come back rested and refreshed? I’m not sure after 15 hours on a plane and 13 hours difference in time. Would I do it again! You bet, I would!
