Retreat Time

Hi friends,
Happy Wednesday! I just returned from a wonderful retreat with friends up in Michigan.

We kicked it off in style. We went to lunch on the water with beautiful boats in the inlet harbor, then shopped in Saugatuck. It’s an adorable town. Next, we headed to Oval Beach. I could not believe how big Lake Michigan is. I really had no idea. It looks like the ocean.

Next was the most important stop of all—coffee at a local cabin-style café. And then off to our hotel. With a wake-up time of 2:30 am to make a 5 am flight, I was out like a light.
On Friday, we met up with author Susan Tuttle for lunch and some shopping in Holland. I *may* have over shopped just a smidge, and my friend and fellow author, Jill Kemerer, *might* be mailing me some of it home because it wouldn’t fit in my suitcase, but it was some finishing touches for the house. We’re almost fully back to normal. If there is a normal around here, with in-laws, two cats, two grandkids that whirlwind through here several days of the week, coffee time with my daughter, along with travel every other week for my hubby’s job. Phew.

The best part was meeting up for dinner and ice cream with the whole crew. Yum! Talk about amazing ice cream. The window-ordering shop has been there since 1980. Which, to me, who grew up in it, doesn’t seem so old, but to one in our group who was born that year, it sure did.
It was a lovely week, which ended with our annual Midsummer Mingle at the wonderful Baker Book House, where we held a readers’ day. We had nearly a hundred readers who drove hours or flew to come and join in the fun. We were so blessed by them. I hope that if you get the chance to ever go on a writer or reader trip, you do. They are such a blessing.

Question for you:
Have you attended a writer or reader retreat before?
Blessings,
Dani

Yes! I’ve attended two brilliant writer retrets in Pancaster County, PA. The only thing better than the teaching and writing time, was the fellowship. I made some friends for life there and established other friendships that will now last forever too.
That’s awesome. Love life long fellowship. Hugs!
I was sad to miss the event at Baker Book House this year! It is such a fun time!
I’m so sorry you missed it. Would have loved to see you again!
The Baker Book House mingles are a blast. I’m visiting with family in Holland right now and feel your love. Glad you had fun. Thank you for doing the event—we readers love it.
Oh how fun. We loved Holland. Spent an afternoon there and had too much fun shopping 😀
I’ve attended several reader events over the years, and would have been at Midsummer Mingle if my brother’s retirement dinner wasn’t on the same day. I have always enjoyed meeting my favorite authors (I have many!) and the group at the Mingle always includes the most wonderful writers! I usually come with friends or family which makes the event even more special.
I’m sorry you couldn’t make it this year but what a wonderful event to attend instead. I hope you all had a lovely time..
Loved hearing how you enjoyed Michigan. I grew up in the Detroit area and now live in Traverse City, which is north of where you were you visited. My daughter’s bachelorette weekend was in Saugatuck last summer — cute town!
I have not ever attended a reader’s retreat. I always seem to find out about the events after they occur.
Oh how fun! We spent a day in Saugatuck. You’re right. It’s adorable.
Oh bummer. Hopefully, you’ll be able to enjoy one some day 🙂
