The new college term began on Monday of this week at both the local university and community college, and I am truly excited about it. Perhaps the most excited I’ve been since I began this back to school adventure.
Up until now, with the exception of taking some tests on campus plus some college prep math attendance requirements, I have been an online student only. That works well for me. I am self-motivated and able to get my assignments done on time. Online classes save me travel time and even allow me to do my learning at 4:00 AM if I choose.
But this term I’m taking a drawing class as an elective. It isn’t offered as an online class (and I doubt doing so would be as effective as in-person anyway). So I made the commitment to attend this two hour and twenty minute class at the college two days a week. We live relatively close to the campus, and as long as the weather doesn’t turn nasty in January and February (a rare thing in this valley), the commute time won’t be terrible.
I wrote a post back in December (Unlocking Your Creativity) and shared about the new adult coloring craze and also about creative journaling in Bibles (Oh my! What some people can do in that regard). I would love for this art class to inspire me to try my hand at my own designs and not just use colored pencils and gel pens on someone else’s drawings (although that is so relaxing I don’t think I will give it up completely). One of my downfalls in the visual arts is a drive for perfection that tends to make my efforts stiff and flat. I hope I will learn to relax and go with the flow a bit more.
I also hope that I won’t be the least talented student in this class, embarrassed by what I manage to do, and that we’ll be graded more on effort than on natural ability. (Don’t want to mess up my GPA if I can keep from it!)
And lest any of you are curious, yes, I am writing away on a new book. Still way too early in the process to tell you anything about it, and I always keep titles a secret until I have a book cover ready to reveal.
But I do have a new book (Keeper of the Stars) releasing in two weeks, and (advance notice), I’m going to give away a Kindle Fire to one lucky newsletter subscriber. The details of the giveaway will be announced in a blog post later this month but feel free to subscribe before then.
Okay, back to writing. Need to make word count before it’s time to get ready to leave for school. (Saying that still makes me feel six years old again. LOL!)

Thanks! As for the GPA, right now it is a 4.0 (with quite a few much tougher courses to come). We’ll see what this art class does to me. :-\

I’m so jealous, Robin. I took an art class when I was in college and loved it but haven’t done anything artistic since. I know they offer art classes here in town. I should follow your example and just do it!Have fun!
