Hi friends,
Today, am I so excited to have my good friend and fellow suspense author Nancy Mehl here at Inspired by Life…and Fiction to share about herself as well as her upcoming release COLD PURSUIT! Sit back, relax, and enjoy this post by Nancy!
I love the different seasons, but my favorite season is winter. Why? I think it’s because when it’s cold outside, I can sit in front of a crackling fire and sip hot chocolate or flavored coffee. I feel protected and safe. I also love the white snow that covers my world and makes everything look clean – pure.

Don’t get me wrong. I also enjoy spring with its colorful blooming flowers, and I like watching my trees turn from brown to green. Then there’s fall with its orange, reds, and yellows signaling the entrance of winter. You may have noticed that I skipped summer. Yes, I did. Not a fan. Heat, sweat, mosquitos, and the insects I detest most…flies.
I realized lately that my writing life has seasons as well. When I started writing twenty-five years ago, I could write all day long. It was exciting! Will this be the manuscript that leads me to my first contract? When that finally happened, I was full of ideas and the excitement continued. I could easily write four books a year. As the years progressed, it got a little harder. Then came the pandemic. Covid left me drained. I needed to rethink my priorities and make some changes. I wanted to spend time with my family. I have two grandsons that I love dearly. I wanted to make memories with them.
I’m still an author, and I believe I always will be. It’s simply part of who I am. But I’ve decided that I’m in another season. My publisher is giving me seven months to complete a book. Of course, there are still edits and promotional activities, but this schedule is perfect for the current season of my life. I have time for my family, myself, as well as time to write. I may not write as many books from now on, but I’m content. This is a wonderful season.
My newest series is set in winter. The first book, COLD PURSUIT, releases in July. A little winter in the summer. 😊

You can win a copy of COLD PURSUIT! All you have to do is leave a comment saying what your favorite season is! (Giveaway is U.S. only.)

If there’s snow I love winter, the kid in me likes snowball fights and building snowmen (grew up in Michigan now live in Kansas). I love spring as all the trees and flowers bloom. Fall as the leaves change and camping. Summer for swimming and no school.
You live in Kansas? I grew up there and lived most of my life in Wichita. Moved to Missouri about ten years ago because we wanted to be near our son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons.
I live having all four seasons. I guess the trick is to find something to appreciate in each one, right? 🙂 Thanks for your comment.
My favorite season is Spring, when life renews itself all around us. It is a reminder of Christ’s resurrection.
I love that. Since buying a house in Missouri, I’ve started to appreciate spring more. The people who lived her before us planted daffodils. It was a surprise when they bloomed! I really love them. 🙂
My favorite season is Fall. That first cool day when a hoodie is needed is perfection. I also love hot chocolate, and while I drink it year round, there’s something special about curling up with a hot cup on a cool day. Looking forward to your next book!
Thank you, Joy. I love your name!
I hope you like COLD PURSUIT. 🙂 Thanks for your comment.
Thank you! 🙂
Spring is my all-time favorite season. The beauty of the fresh new flowers and greenery makes my allergies almost worth it. I do love mid-fall too because there’s finally a crispness in the air signaling relief from the seemingly endless broiling heat in coastal Texas.
I have a friend who lives in Texas, and she’s talked about the heat. I live in Arizona for a couple of years. Talk about heat. Yikes! Just not for me.
Thanks for your comment!
I think my favorite season is Spring, watching the world green up, along with all the colorful Spring flowers! However, my allergies DON’T agree with the rest of me!
My son struggles with allergies. Not fun! I’ve learned to appreciate spring more since we moved. The previous owners of our house planted some great flowers, so now I look forward to watching them bloom every year. I’m trying to learn to appreciate each season. Summer will take a while, though. LOL!
Spring! But we’re I live it is always a very short season — wish it lasted longer!
I understand. I wish it lasted longer too.
Thanks for your comment!
Fall is my favorite season because it means the end of hot Texas summer. I love seeing the little change of color we have and also watching college football. And then there’s Spring, too. I love the blue bonnets and other wildflowers. Oh well, I guess I have two favorites!
I’m a summer girl all the way. Love the sun, beach and the smell of freshly mowed grass and suntan lotion.
I might appreciate it more if there was a beach near us – or even a pool! Growing up, we had swimming pools. Makes a big difference!
My favorite season is Spring
You’re in the majority. I like it too. Just not looking forward to the heat of summer. And the….flies. Yuck! LOL!
Thanks for your comment. 🙂
Summer is definitely my favorite season! As a former teacher summer always meant freedom! Freedom from routine, freedom to do things I loved to do–read as many books as I wanted to–travel to new places–see new things–freedom & time to dream!
I like the other seasons as well–but my least favorite is winter. I am not a fan of icy rain or sleet–which we get more of in the South than anything else.
I am already a Nancy Mehl fan–I’ve read most of her recent books. Loved the dark suspense!
Hi, Martha. Thanks for your kind comment about my books. I can certainly understand your reasons for loving summer. I’m sure most teachers feel the same. Hope you have a great summer!
I love spring! Everything is turning green coming to life. And the weather is normally pleasant. I live in the south, and summertime can just get too hot.
I completely agree. It’s the really awful heat that gets to me. It makes me wonder how people got through it before air conditioning. I’m so grateful I wasn’t born before it was invented. LOL!
Thanks so much for your comment.
I love all of the seasons — I don’t think I would like to live where the seasons didn’t change. I guess I would say my favorite season is fall, especially after a hot summer in the south! 🙂 I love the fall leaves, the crisp air, the beautiful colors, etc. But each season has its own special qualities.
You have the right attitude. I’m working on it… LOL!
Your writing is always so inspiring!
Agree!
Awww. Thank you, Patti. 🙂
Nancy I hope you enjoy this new season in life. I feel everyone needs to slow down and enjoy what God has blessed us with. I think my favorite season is spring, I enjoy watching everything come back to life. All the beautiful flowers, the different colors of green, I also love watching the birds . I love your books and one a year is better than zero. Have a blessed summer.
Thank you so much, Jackie. You’re so sweet.
Praying your summer will be blessed as well. 🙂
Spring is my favorite season. I’m not a big fan of sweating, or misquotes!
That’s what I think, although I think I hate flies even more than mosquitoes!
Thanks for your comment. 🙂
My favorite season might be winter. I don’t like a lot of snow. The winter season has Christmas an my birthday.
Two great reasons to love winter!
Thanks for stopping by, Beverly!
I also love winter, because in Arizona I get to wear long pants and in Southern Arizona we sometimes get snow.
I lived in Arizona for a short time. Flagstaff was the place to go for snow! Beautiful area!
Thanks for your comment, Becky!
Hi Nancy,
I’m looking forward to reading your new book. I’m not a fan of hot weather. I’m also a mosquito magnet! I enjoy fall weather. Not too hot or cold. Great for drinking my hot chocolate, tea or coffee. With a good book included 🙂
My favorite season is a toss up between spring and fall! I love springtime because there are so many flowers blooming (plus my birthday is in the spring!), but I also love the coziness of fall and the cooling temperatures (because Florida summer is hot!).
I have a friend who lives in Florida. I had no idea how hot it gets there until she told me. Yikes! Plus I know it’s really humid.
I do enjoy fall. The colors and the chill in the air. It’s awesome.
Thanks for your comment, Tristany. What a great name, btw!
I say my favorite season is spring because it is warm again, foliage is growing, and the birds return. However, I feel better in autumn because allergy season is finally over.
I hear you!
Thanks for your comment, Roxanne!
My favorite season is summer. I love the warm weather, family bbqs, reading on the porch, the smell of fresh cut grass and the song of the ice cream truck.
You make good points. I’m glad you enjoy it. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.
I look forward to spring when the landscape begins to come alive with the bright colors of flowers and trees begin to grow their deep, green leaves. It’s time to shed heavy coats and gloves for light jackets. New beginnings are encouraging.
Thank you for sharing about your “cool” new book! It sounds intriguing!
Autumn is my favorite season, although I appreciate living where we can enjoy all four seasons. I love wearing sweatshirts, crunching through piles of leaves, the golden hues of each sunset or sunrise, and the vibrant beauty of the trees as the leaves fade then fall. And my palate enjoys delightful pumpkins, winter squash, apples and drinking hot beverages (chai!).
Fall is my favorite! Lately Utah has been way to hot for me in the summer! I love the 75-80 degree weather! Looking forward to getting to know you as an author!
Summer is my favorite. I don’t necessarily like the mosquitoes & snakes. I do like the warmth, the green, the smells and just being.
We are winter people as well and love the snow. But we, like you enjoy the Spring and Fall for hiking and backpacking when it’s cooler. We’re not much of summer people, it’s too hot for us.
My favorite season is Fall. I love the coolness in the air, the campfires, the smores, the sweaters and going to the pumpkin patch and orchards.
I think my favorite season is fall because everything is colorful and festive and the heat wanes so that I can actually breathe and enjoy being outside. I love to watch everything bloom in the spring, too, but the pollen here in NC is crazy. Winter is pretty awesome, especially when it snows, but it rarely does that here.
Can’t wait to read the next book!
My favorite season is summer. I love having a more laid back schedule, so that we can enjoy doing more activities as a family. I also like to garden.
I don’t really have a favorite season… like you I enjoy some of each! My granddaughter is having a medical issue right now, I’m trying to relish each day… moment really! Thank you Nancy ❤️
I love spring with all of the flowers and blooming trees.
