Sharing Books
As I mentioned last time I posted, Ken and I are on a five-week-plus trip to some of the National Parks we’ve never seen before (and a few we have) and one of the things we enjoy doing when we stay at campgrounds along the way is to share books. Many of the campgrounds where we stay have a lending library, usually operating on a take-one-leave-one basis.
We always pack a good supply of books to leave in the park libraries and often I find a book there that I’d like to take home with me. It’s the perfect set-up for a place we likely won’t return to for years, if at all.
Here are the books we left in a campground library this week, one of several. They had quite a selection here!

Sometimes the campground will have a Little Free Library somewhere on the grounds. I love contributing books to those cute mini-libraries and have done so many times since we started traveling. I wrote a whole post about Little Free Libraries a couple of years ago. If you’d like to read that, click on the photo below, picturing just a few of the little houses we’ve put my books in:
We’ve struggled to find good cell service on this trip. The National Parks Service seems to pride itself on “forcing” people to get off their phones and enjoy God’s creation, and we’re trying to do that, but it is sometimes frustrating not to be able to check email or even get a phone call!

LOVING the pics from your trip so far, Deb. Breathtaking! Praying safety and blessings over you guys as you drink in the cooler temps (which I’m LOVING here in TN) and the time together. 🤍
Thanks, Tammy. Yes, we’re LOVING the weather! Except for rain at Mount Rainier (which was beautiful in itself!) we have had the BEST weather! Just glorious! Enjoy fall in your pretty part of the country!
I love following you on this trip. You have shared so many beautiful and interesting pictures. The sharing library is a great idea. It does remind me of the Little Free Libraries. When visiting my granddaughter in California, I saw a Little Free Library in the community center where my grandson takes Taekwondo. A few years ago, I saw a small box set up next to the parking lot at my church. I thought it was a Little Free Library, but it is called a Sharing Box, and contains non perishable food items, band aids, socks, gloves, and many other such items. It was the Eagle project for one of the boys in the scout troop our church sponsors.
Continued prayers for safe travels!
Oh, I love that Sharing Box idea! And thank you for your prayers, Betty! They mean the world!
I am enjoying your trip posts on fb.
You have seen some great country!
I love the tiny book libraries too.
Today I found two new to me libraries.
How fun to discover new libraries! That’s great!
I’m happy to report that our neighborhoods near me are full of Little Free Libraries – they seem to be pretty popular around here. And so much fun to browse through and donate to them. I would never have thought of seeing them on a campground, though – a pretty good idea!
And by the way, Deb – your pictures on Facebook of Spokane were great…so glad you and Ken got to stop and enjoy the falls!
That neighborhood full of Little Free Libraries would make a great story! And we were so impressed with Spokane! Beautiful city!
Thank you – I agree…but then it’s home so I might be a bit prejudiced. I hope all of yours and Ken’s adventure is just as beautiful!
