In November of 2021, I traveled to Scottsdale, Arizona with my husband to celebrate my 50th birthday. My two sisters and my parents joined us there. I LOVED marking the occasion of my birthday with such a memorable trip.
When my sister’s 50th rolled around recently, we had the perfect reason to take another mini-vacation. This time–Cabo, Mexico! I grew up in California and have lived in Texas for more than twenty-five years. But though I’ve spent most of my life in states that border Mexico, I’d never visited. Until now.
We were only there three nights, but we made the most of our time. The resort where we stayed, Esperanza, was lovely. Great location. Yummy food. Fantastic customer service. Beautiful villa. We especially enjoyed their…
We went on a few adventures outside of the resort, also.
My brothers-in-law (pictured above) love sport fishing. On an early morning fishing trip they caught four marlin. (!!) The time we went out with them, the goal was simply a relaxing ride along the coast. We ended up seeing two whale tales! And this guy followed us into the harbor…
We went to Flora Farms and had an AMAZING meal in their open-air restaurant.
After a tiny bit of shopping, my brother-in-law scored a serape branded with his favorite team. He’ll be dressed in one-of-a-kind merch for their next football-watching party.
We left Cabo yesterday afternoon.
Mexico won me over on this trip. I’d love to go back in the future!
However, the part of the getaway I treasured most was time spent with my sisters and our husbands. There are many gifts in this life. Travel is certainly one. But the people you love, the ones who know you best… those are the very best gifts of all.
Have you been to Mexico? If so, what are your favorite spots?

What a fun trip, Becky! It made me miss my own sisters who live in Kansas TOO far away! I think you’ve started a great tradition of celebrating milestone events with your sisters!

I think we’ve started a great tradition, too. These occasions give us a perfect reason to be intentional about planning a trip together. 🙂

Have been to Cozumel twice and really liked it. Once with my aunt and then I took my granddaughter on a cruise for her graduation from high school.
We swam with the dolphins in Cozumel, and she did the snorkeling too.

I love that you took a cruise with your granddaughter for her graduation! Swimming with dolphins sounds amazing!

What an amazing trip and wonderful memories with your family! I love the serape! My friends surprised me with one from their trip to Mexico many years ago of my favorite team, the Buccaneers, and we had a great laugh over it! 🙂
Becky Wade says
Yes! We laughed and laughed, too.

So glad you had this happy time. Your pictures brought back great memories for me because we celebrated our 50th anniversary in Cabo in 2015. Instead of a big party, I wanted to have a family trip. My daughter who has lived in CA for 30 years now, found this wonderful trip for 12 in our family to a lovely resort. We were there a week, and in addition to the things you highlighted, we swam with the dolphins (still can’t believe I did that). My daughter and son paid for my husband and me to have a private evening sailboat trip. My daughter, daughter-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter rode horses on the beach in front of our resort. I am so happy we had this trip, for I have such wonderful memories to look back on.
Before that time my daughter had taken us twice to Rosario, a town 50 miles inside of Mexico, to have a steak and lobster dinner at a favorite restaurant and visit the Mexican markets.

In 2022, me and some girlfriends celebrated a 50th birthday in Cancun at the Excellence Riviera. We stayed a week and had a fantastic time. It was the first time I’d stayed at an all-inclusive and got spoiled to pieces. Sounds like you and your sisters did as well. 🙂
Becky Wade says
You stayed a whole week at an all-inclusive resort?! BLISS!! That must have been utterly, fabulously relaxing.

I love that y’all got to do that! And I can’t believe you hadn’t been to Mexico before! My sisters and I hope to do these kinds of trips in the near future since the youngest will be an empty-nester next year.
Becky Wade says
Right! Trips like this were almost impossible for my sisters and I to plan when our (combined) 10 kids were younger.

Back in the early 90s, I went to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. We had church friends who lived down there & I attended the church camp meeting they had three years in a row. It was an experience I’ll never forget & will always be grateful for being able to go. We met some of the sweetest people & the topography was beautiful! The place we stayed was within walking distance of the beach, so we spent a lot of time there. I made some wonderful memories & have LOTS of pictures to help keep those memories alive!

I loved hearing your memories of Mexico, Lori. 🙂

What a wonderful time! I’ve never been to Mexico, it looks beautiful. So glad you get to have those moments with your sisters. I am the oldest of 5, and anytime we get a chance to hang out as a group, we jump on it. They are some of my favorite people!
Becky Wade says
“They are some of my favorite people” — YES!! Exactly. I jump at chances to hang out as a group as well.
