I’ve got three questions for you today, and they all pertain to personal preferences. Ready? Let’s go!

While Joe and I were in Hilton Head last month, we made a trip over to Bluffton (as we always do when we’re there). Bluffton, South Carolina has a wonderful little artsy district, and in that artsy district is a door that I just love.
I take a picture of it every time I’m there. I just can’t help myself. It’s like an old friend now, just patiently waiting for me to return.
I love the non-symmetrical design of this door. I love the color combination and the old stone steps. But when I shared this picture with a friend, she said the fact that the door was not symmetrical would drive her crazy, LOL. (I told her I thought she was already halfway there.)
So which are you? Symmetrical or not symmetrical with your doors? Would this door draw your eye or make you run screaming?

We love to play games in our family and over Christmas we played a game new to us—THROW THROW BURRITO, billed as “what you get when you cross a card game with dodge ball.”
It is so fun!
The “burritos” are very soft and squishy so it doesn’t hurt at all when it hits you—other than injuring your pride maybe!
In the game, if someone plays a Burrito card, then battles and wars and duels can break out. Here’s me and Kellie (my fabulous new daughter-in-law) dueling it out for the very first time in the game. You can tell we’re all still learning what to do! (I have no idea why the video portion of the clip isn’t showing up. ?? Oh well, you can hear our laughter!)
We had such fun! And most of us played by the rules…sort of. : )
So which are you? A person who loves games or who endures them? Does throwing burritos at people you adore fill you with effervescent joy and jubilation? Or abject dread and dismay?

I recently made these scrumptious little chocolate cheesecake muffins and oh my are they delicious! And low carb gluten free to boot!
If given a choice between salty and sweet, I will always choose sweet. I love salty, don’t get me wrong. Chips and salsa or chips with guacamole? Or air-popped popcorn with sea salt and butter? Come to Mama! One of my favorite splurges is to get a kids meal from Chick-fil-A and dip the warm waffle fries in the Ice Dream. Be still my beating heart. Talk about yummy! But my first love will always be sweets.
So which are you? A die hard sweets lover or a “salty Suzie?” Any favorite treats you make or grab when you’re out?
I look forward to hearing from you—and sincerely pray that 2021 holds blessings beyond belief for you and yours. I also continue to ask God for justice and righteousness for our country, and for Jesus to reveal his good and perfect will so we can glorify his name in the power of the Spirit at every turn.
And speaking of Chick-fil-A, be sure to enter to win one of three $10 CFA gift cards in my monthly giveaway!
So which are you in relation to non-symmetrical doors, games or no games, and sweet versus salty?
Tammy

That is a beautiful door with so much character! Definitely picture worthy. Game night with the family is one of my favorites. The best nights are when we end up in tears from laughing so hard. And, sweet is definitely my go-to…when I’ve had a little too much, I counteract it with salty. 🤪😍
Tamera Alexander says
We are kindred spirits, Becky! Laughter dissolving into tears is the best. Blessings to you, friend, and thanks for sharing.
Linda Attaway says
The door is pretty but the asymmetry would make me crazy. Not naming any names, but it seems like people who like asymmetry may be a bit unbalanced themselves. 🙂
And I LOVE games! It was such fun having my daughter and her fiance here over Christmas. We played so any games.
Sweet has always been my preference, too, although I like salty as well. And the combo of sweet and salty has really grown on me recently. (Sweet & salty friendships are good too! Although I suspect we would disagree on which of us is which. LOL)
Happy New Year!
Tamera Alexander says
LOL, Linda. So good to hear from you. I thought of you during the holidays and prayed for you as I know you missed dear members of your family who are already Home, same as me. Aren’t we grateful for the firm promise of seeing them again? It doesn’t surprise me a bit that we’re both game players. And slightly competitive too! Love you…Salty Suzie! ; )
Joy Tiffany says
I’m glad I’m not the only one who takes pictures of random doors. LOL When done right, asymmetrical can be a work of art (as is the case with this door!). All the chips and dip, please! It’s still my go-to “stock up, there’s a storm coming!” treat. (Side note- we call those cupcakes black-bottom cupcakes. My niece requested that my sister make them for Christmas this year.) I grew up playing cards. Kentucky Rummy was our game of choice. The thought of board games makes me cringe. I recently spent a few days with my cousin and her two oldest daughters LOVE playing board games and I couldn’t say no. But, depending on the game, I often wind up enjoying myself anyway. Anything with charades? no, I’m out. LOL
Tamera Alexander says
LOL, Joy. I have to laugh because that’s my husband’s mantra. “Life’s uncertain, buy more chips!” And since the Keto lifestyles definitely lacks in the “crunch” satisfaction, I have to reach for extra discipline when he pulls them out, which is way too often! 😉 Interesting on the cupcakes…black-bottom. Makes sense. I’m not sure I’ve ever played Kentucky Rummy, but I LOVE playing cards. Rook and Spades are probably my favorites. I need to check out Kentucky Rummy now though, thanks for the recommendation. LOL at “the thought of board games makes me cringe.” Same for your feelings about charades. So funny. Love that we both love doors. I have TONS of pictures of doors. I just can’t not! Thanks for sharing!
Deborah Raney says
I love asymmetrical things. Gotta say I’m not crazy about the yellow and black together (much as I like bumblebees!) but otherwise love the door and all things asymmetrical.
Our grandkids got the burrito game, too, but we didn’t play it with them. But we played lots of other games and LOVE them all.
Salty every time. Potato chips are my weakness. Not that I don’t love sweets, but it’s always an easy choice for me if given one: salty!
Happy New Year, dear friend!
Tamera Alexander says
I KNOW you LOVE asymmetrical, Miss Deb! You love me, after all! ; ) I adore the pics of your grandchildren on FB. Looks like you were in Mimi heaven for a few days. And salty for you too, huh? With those peanut butter twists you love(d), I would’ve pegged you for sweet. Live and learn! Happy New Year, dear one!
Christine Reed says
Like the door (I love yellow), but I definitely favor symmetry in doors. I like to play games with family, but we haven’t done that in a while. I prefer sweet.
Tamera Alexander says
I love yellow too. So bright and encouraging a color, my fellow sweet loving sister! ; )
Jennifer Bretsch says
I would love the door too! The fact that it’s asymmetrical would make it stand out even more to me. I love games! The more crazy, the better! My husband and I love to have game nights with friends. That is one thing we look forward to being able to do again once the pandemic is over. And I have a huge sweet tooth! Although it’s always good to have something salty to balance things out!
Tamera Alexander says
Agree on the balancing things out, Jennifer. And fun on the game nights. YES to doing that again routinely once we’re past this. Bless you in 2021!
Barbara Harper says
I prefer symmetrical, but I can live with asymmetrical. Sometimes. But I couldn’t live with a yellow door. 😀
We love games, but not usually the kind where things are thrown. 🙂 My middle son would love that, though.
Sometimes salty hits the spot, but I gravitate to sweets. My husband gave me some of my favorite Lindt Lindor milk chocolate truffles, and I am trying hard to ration them out.
Tamera Alexander says
LOL, no harm no foul on not like the yellow door. Different strokes and all, Barbara. : ) Oh, those Lindt Lindor truffles! Those are flat dangerous!
Angie Quantrell says
I LOVE that non-symmetrical door! I often do things purposely to be non-symmetrical. Then they don’t have to be perfect. That’s just my viewpoint on life. I remember back when I was student teaching, eons ago, my lead teacher asked me to create a bulletin board. Well, I got to it, overlapping science-y pictures and text, nothing matching, etc. She was pretty well shocked. “Well, I’ve never thought of doing it that way!” It looked great and she liked it, but the viewpoint was totally new for her. So I just go with what I like and don’t worry about perfectly spaced portraits or artwork or whatever.
I love games, my honey does not. So I do not get to play them much. I guess my treat preferences depends on the time of day. Sometimes I would love Miner’s french fries with fry sauce. Other times, a special dark chocolate truffle. But I really don’t enjoy too many super sugary treats.
Tamera Alexander says
Angie, I knew we were connected for a reason! LOL I LOVE that door too. I just look at it and it makes me smile. I love your perspective on the “doesn’t have to be perfect.” Maybe that’s part of what I love about asymmetrical. ?? Your bulletin board sounds like something I would love. Thinking outside the box. And the darker the chocolate the better, to me! Hugs to you, friend.
Patti Jo Moore says
Happy New Year, Tammy!! 🙂
That door is lovely—although I’d prefer it to be symmetrical, but no big deal (for me, anyway!) if it’s not.
I LOVE games!! That is one of my MOST favorite things to do with family—especially middle daughter and son-in-law. We have such fun playing games (thanks for mentioning the Burrito game–I’ll look for that one and have a feeling my son-in-law will love it, LOL).
SWEETS – – yes, please (says the lady who just nibbled 2 cookies and a few M&Ms for breakfast). 😉 I know that’s not a healthy habit, but I “needed” that sugar-burst this morning. 🙂
Thanks for this fun post, and again BIG CONGRATULATIONS on adding your lovely daughter-in-law to the Alexander family! So exciting!!
Hugs from Georgia, Patti Jo
Tamera Alexander says
Hey sweet Patti Jo! So good to “see” you here today. I just KNEW you would love games. A person can just look at you and know you’re a fun-loving soul. LOL on cookies and M&Ms for breakfast. You’re living my dream! ; ) Thanks for the congrats. We all just adore Kellie. She’s a perfect fit, as is her family. We love them all and consider them one of our greatest blessings! Hugs to you and the kitties! (Thanks again for the KK love; I’m saving my last visit to celebrate my next book being finished and turned in…sometime in April. But I’m already dreaming of a warm original glazed.)
Shirley Chapel says
Doors really aren’t my thing. As long as they can be locked and I can hang some type of wreath on them their fine with me. I do like a brown door or a wood door.
Tamera Alexander says
Oh that made me smile, Shirley. I gotta say, I want mine to lock too. And I love a wood door as well. Hugs from my corner of the world to yours.
Amy M. says
1) Symmetrical – but love the colors
2) Games, games and more games
3) Sweet-toothed and proud of it
Tamera Alexander says
Amy, I love your fun pithiness. Hugs and thanks for sharing!
Janice Laird says
-That door has character!
-Games are ok if they have an element of chance, don’t last 4 days (aka Axis and Allies, etc.), and if you’re playing with people who aren’t ultra-competitive and ruin the fun for everyone.
-Sweet, but salted caramel gets me every time.
Still trying to decide if Chik-fil-a or Popeyes has the better chicken sandwich! 🙂
Tamera Alexander says
Doesn’t it though, Janice? LOL on games lasting 4 days, but I get you! Oh gracious on the salted caramel. My mouth literally just watered. Love the stuff! And CFA all the way for me, but um, I wouldn’t turn down a Popeyes! 🙂
Rachel says
Non-symmetrical, absolutely.
Games!
Salty.
Tamera Alexander says
Love knowing this about you, Rachel. Thanks for playing!
Linda says
Happy New Year! I like symmetrical doors, but loved the yellow color. I haven’t played games much in recent years, but last fall I spent time with my sister-in-law and her sister playing lots of games and loved it! And I inherited the sweet gene from my dad, and happily passed it to my kids. I will have to try that cupcake recipe, I have several family members who are gluten free. Thanks for sharing!
Tamera Alexander says
Yay on trying that recipe, Linda. And in case you don’t have almond milk (which mine had gone bad), you can use regular milk too. We drink Kroger’s Carbmaster milk and that’s what I used instead this time. But I usually use almond milk. Blessings on your year, friend!
Jen says
Love your door picture. Our door is unsymmetrical and I just now know that I should up the color game there.
Not crazy about games at our house but I did give a game to my husband for Christmas. We have yet to play it.😬
Oh definitely sweet is my flavor of choice. Sometimes I need a salty fix to get me out of a sweet attack.
Melissa Gay says
Symmetrical doors for me! Bring on the games ~ most any kind! Definitely SWEETS!!
Happy 2021! I’m looking forward to TA goodness on pages!!
Candi F says
Symmetrical doors, I love to play games and I usually go for sweet snacks but salty ones are delicious too! My favorite Christmas candy at the moment is saltines that are covered and seeped in caramelly goodness and then topped with chocolate. It’s a perfect combo of salty and sweet! Warning–it’s hard to eat just one!
JOAN ARNING says
I love both salty and sweet! Salty might win out!
I like the door but know a couple of my friends who would go crazy!
I love games! The worst thing about Covid-19 is that I can’t have game nights with my friends!
Lori Smanski says
When it comes to doors, I can really go either way. I mean we dont always really have a choice.
Leanne says
I’ve never really thought about doors being symmetrical of asymmetrical. Our front door has one side-light window (as do many in our neighborhood) so that would make it asymmetrical and I like it. I love games and I also love sweets – choose that over salty every time!
SHERRY PIKE says
Definitely symmetrical! I would have to paint the side door yellow so it would at least appear symmetrical. I love games but physical ones not so much. Dodge ball was my worst nightmare as a kid. I would always just stand in one place and hope to get hit so I would be out of the game, lol. I like games involving cards, dice and words. Sweet or salty is a hard choice. Depends on my mood. Definitely like sweet and salty together, like chocolate covered pretzels or popcorn with m&m’s.
Paula Shreckhise says
Symmetrical for the most part, although if something is too exact then I like it to be a bit off.
I like to play games with the grandkids.
I like both salty and sweet. Sometimes together like salted caramel ice cream.
Edward Arrington says
I’m just over halfway through your new book and enjoying it very much.
I am symmetrical. It’s interesting you talked about that particular game. Our son and his wife usually do our Christmas shopping for us for their boys. We gave that game to our grandson. I had never heard of it until he opened it at our family get-together. We didn’t play any games Christmas, but we did on New Year’s Eve. That wasn’t one of them. Maybe another time. I’m sure we would have a blast playing it. As a rule, I tend to lean more towards salty, but sweet is good also.
Jennifer B. says
I gravitate towards symmetry, but this door is a lovely yellow color (one of my favorites) so I could live with the fact it is not symmetrical.
I love playing games! We bought Throw Throw Burrito for my nephew’s birthday party last summer. He and his brothers enjoyed the burrito battles! Growing up we played lots of games and enjoyed having people over for game night’s. My hubby isn’t as fond as I am of games, but he will occasionally endure a round of cards or Scrabble.
I choose salty snacks. I do appreciate a sweet treat occasionally, but I get burned out on those more than salty snacks. Growing up I would still have leftover Easter candy going into the next year. (Big chocolate bunny got used to make brownies…new use for “old” candy!)
