There’s something that’s just so fresh about spring. Everything feels new and exciting. Even when it comes to reading. This time of year, I’m drawn to the new. Even with a TBR pile that could keep me in books for several months, I find myself peeking ahead to see what new books are coming down the pipeline. And this month, I found several to get excited about.
My Top 3 Most Anticipated Early Spring Reads
1. The Cairo Curse by Pepper Basham – Now available!
I fell in love with Grace and Freddie in The Mistletoe Countess in 2021. Now Pepper is giving us a sequel, letting us join this daring duo on their Egyptian honeymoon. It’s billed as “Clue meets Indiana Jones,” and I can’t wait to dig in. I preordered a copy, and it arrived last week, so as soon as I finish my current read, it will jump to the top of my pile.
2. A Match in the Making by Jen Turano – Releases 2/21
I love Jen Turano’s books. They are just so witty and fun, much like their delightful creator. This book is the first in a new series, and it looks to be another winner. Here’s the opening line:
One of the most curious discoveries Miss Gwendolyn Brinley had made during her brief sojourn as an unexpected and oh-so-reluctant assistant matchmaker was this–securing advantageous marriages amongst the socially elite was not for the faint of heart and, frankly, could be considered a blood sport.
Love it!
3. Forged in Love by Mary Connealy – Releases 2/28
The moment I learned Mary was writing a book about a female blacksmith, I knew I wanted to read it. Not only is the heroine a blacksmith, but in a fun flip of the usual trope, the hero is a chef. Mary’s books always have a good dose of humor and action, two of my favorite elements, so I fully expect to enjoy this story. This is also the first in a new series set in Wyoming.
Can you tell that my favorite genre is humorous historical romance? I feel like I hit the jackpot this month. 🙂
What new releases are you looking forward to in 2023?

Sorry that you’re not able to access the giveaway, Lelia. I wonder if trying a different browser would help. It comes up for me in Chrome and Firefox.
I’m glad you are excited about some of the same books I am. This is going to be a great spring for reading in my house. 🙂

The Mistletoe Countess was one of my favorite reads of 2022. As soon as I finish my current book, Cairo Curse is going to the front of my TBR.

Me, too, Robin! I loved Mistletoe Countess. Grace is the perfect character for fiction-loving readers to cheer for. 🙂

In an earlier post you had issued a challenge to read a book with “New” in the title. I searched high and low in my local library for such a title–and then found one at the top of my TBR pile–Newsmakers, by Lis Wiehl & Sebastian Stuart. It was an excellent choice for a suspenseful read!
Karen Witemeyer says
Yay! I’m so glad the reading challenge gave you an excuse to dig into a story from your TBR pile. I find that these challenges get me excited for books in my TBR pile or hiding on my Kindle that had been lingering on the back burner.
Gena Bessire says
Every one of those books has been on my TBR list and I order/preordered them all yesterday. It’s going to be a great month of reading. I, also, ordered Becky Wade’s “Memory Lane”. Happy Days to come! 🙂
Karen Witemeyer says
You obviously have great taste in books, Gena. 🙂 Happy reading to both of us!
Becky Wade says
I’m a part of that giveaway, too, Karen and my mind boggles at the thought of one winner receiving ALL those books! Talk about a fantastic TBR pile. 🙂

I know! 26 books, and they all look fabulous! I see Cara in there, too, so IBLF is well represented. 🙂

I’m looking forward to Fairest of Heart… Happy Birthday to me AGAIN this year! 😀 … & also to your novella, In Her Sights. Since I’m in the middle of rereading the Archer Brothers series & just finished Crockett’s story, I was reacquainted with Jackson & can’t wait to read how Tessa breaks through his tough exterior.
I’m also looking forward to Mary Connealy’s new series set in Wyoming. Thanks to your recommendation, I just pre-ordered all three paperbacks from Baker Book House!
I’ve done a LOT of rereading this past year… almost my whole collection… so I’m looking forward to some new reads this year. There’s nothing quite like holding a new paperback in your hand for the first time. 😀 haha
Karen Witemeyer says
Thanks so much, Lori. I can’t wait to share Jackson and Tessa’s story with you. Coming soon!
