Hi friends,
Always happy to spend a day with you. It’s springtime, and I’m thrilled! Minus spring allergies, of course. But it’s staying light until after 7pm, flowers are starting to bloom (hence allergies), and the days are warming up! One of my favorite things about spring is getting to spend time outside without freezing. Here are just a few of the activities we enjoy!
Hiking. We’re fortunate to live in an area with so many hiking trails! We’ve hiked since our girls were super young, and now we get to enjoy hiking with the grandkids too. Somehow Little Dude always manages to find a large stick he wants to bring home, while Little Man is performing parkour feats on the boulders, trees and across the water.
Boating. So excited the kids bought one this year. I sense a summer full of adventure! Little Dude has pronounced himself Captain, and Little Man is Commodore.
Day trips. We’re fortunate to live in an area with a ton of fun places to go for the day. Some of our favorites include doing a cheesesteak run to Philly, taking in a Phillies game, visiting the National Zoo, or, my personal favorite, visiting Baldwin’s Book Barn in West Chester, PA.
And, of course, visiting the beach.
One of my new favorite things to do outside is to write. Last year we got an outdoor sectional sofa, and I write out there all the time when it’s warm. I love listening to the birds and seeing the cardinals land on our bird house or feeder. Every now and then we even catch sight of an oriole. There’s something so relaxing and invigorating about being outside.
This year we’re planning to expand it to include a hammock swing, outdoor rug and hanging lanterns. It’s my spring project. I’ve had so much fun playing on Pinterest for inspiration. Here are few pics that I found super inspiring, just to give you an idea:
Question for you:
How about you? Do you have any fun spring projects in the works? What’s your favorite way to spend a warm spring day?
Giveaway: To kick off spring, I’m giving away a $20 Amazon Gift card.
To enter, all you have to do is comment below. The winner will be chosen Friday, announced in the comments section and contacted via email. Best of luck to you all!
Best of luck,
Dani

Man, this post is so happy and yet it makes me a little sad as my family is moving away from Maryland and in past years my family has gone out on the boat with my grandma which isn’t likely to happen again anytime soon. 🙁
Dani says
Oh no. I’m sorry to hear that Abigail. Hope you’re moving someplace fun!
Lynette says
My favorite way to spend any day is to read! I wish I had more reading time!
Dani says
So true. I’m always wishing for more reading time.
Paty Hinojosa says
Looks like you’re having so much fun!
My fun spring proyect is gardening! Winter freezing temperatures left almost everything half dead, and now things are reblooming. I love to make plants thrive and look beautiful! But I get the allergies too, so I have to be careful or just Ho through them anyway!
My favorite way to spend a warm spring day is reading! Outdoors of course!
Thanks for the chance of the giveaway!
Dani says
Reading outdoors is the best. I love beautiful gardens but God didn’t not bless me in that area, but I have managed to keep 4 plants alive in my office which is a miracle, but I love having plants surrounding me.
Brandi says
Favorite way to spend a spring day: reading in the warm sun. Second would be hiking, maybe with an audiobook, depending on the location. I do love the sounds of birds and water, so that would trump audiobook.
No projects in the works.
Dani says
Reading in the warm sun sounds lovely on this rainy day but we’re in for some nice weather through the weekend. Hiking is wonderful. I too love listening to all the sounds of nature. Thanks so much for dropping by this morning and sharing 🙂
Staci says
Every day is a great day to read! Love the moderate temperatures and blooming colors of spring.
Dani says
Love spring colors too! They just brighten my day.
Anne L. Rightler says
I enjoy the outdoors from my deck swing! Not much for hiking. I enjoy sitting there listening to the birds and reading. So glad that spring, w/ the hope of warmer weather, has come.
Dani says
Oooh. A deck swing. That sounds lovely.
Tracey Hagwood says
I love when Spring comes and I can put a fresh new wreath on the door to welcome family and friends. This year I put out a basket with small yellow tulips. My favorite way to spend a Spring day is sitting on our patio soaking up some wonderful sunshine with a book in my hands and watching the birds at our eight feeders!
Dani says
I love seeing seasonal wreaths on doors. So welcoming.
Eight feeders! Wow. That’s awesome. I bet you get some great bird watching.
Tish says
I love the outdoors as soon as Spring comes I am out in the Potting shed planting seeds. I love watching the birds as I plant. I have many birdhouses and enjoy them making there nests in the houses. Thanks for a chance at the giveaway.
Dani says
Sounds like a lovely way to spend Spring 🙂
Lisa F. says
I love sitting on a welcoming and freshly cleaned porch with a book after working in the flower and herb beds to prepare them for the season. Feeling the warmth of the sun, listening to birdsong, and enjoying all the natural light–all adds up to a perfect spring day.
Dani says
That does sound like a wonderful spring day!
Having herb beds must be lovely. Enjoying fresh herbs with meals or in tea…
Terry says
I love driving the roads and looking at the wildflowers.
Dani says
I do too!
Melissa Andres says
I too am enjoying the longer days and warmer temps! We live in South-Central Wisconsin and things are starting to bloom. We don’t have any big projects at home scheduled, but my son is getting married in June and as soon as he finds a place to live, we’re gonna be busy!
Dani says
Oh. How exciting! Prayers for a lovely wedding and a blessed marriage.
Melissa Andres says
Thank you so much!!

Dani says
Awww. You’re welcome. I love being with my grandkids too.

Just moved back to my hometown and a new house. I am planning a small flower garden and an area for a bird sanctuary. Keeping it smaller than where we moved from as I am retired and want to spend more relaxing time, plus I help my mom who has dementia and that load is pretty heavy. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Dani says
That is a very heavy load. I’m so sorry she and you are going through that. What a blessing you must be to her.
Ermetta says
It is a beautiful time of the year to enjoy God’s creation! Yesterday to went to New Jersey Botanical Gardens and all the crocuses and snowdrops were up! So beautiful. We need to take time and enjoy those blessings!
Dani says
Oh, I bet that was beautiful.
Elizabeth Litton says
I love walking out into the fields and woods on our farm with my camera to take pictures of the flowers, birds, insects, etc. Also in the evenings, my brother usually asks me to play croquet with him.
Dani says
That sounds like a beautiful place to live.
Paula Shreckhise says
We bought our first house in September. It is nicely landscaped. We have been married for 51 years. We love seeing the birds at our feeders. We have a sunroom that will be super for reading when it’s warmer. We are noticing what spring flowers are coming up. I have daffodils!!!
Dani says
Congratulations on your first hour and on being married for 51 years. That’s wonderful!
Kay Garrett says
We have always been happy staying at home. Due to medical issues, staying at home is a very good thing until we are fully vaccinated. We take great joy and pride in our yard and garden. Spring is the time to uncover the protected plants and to start new projects. Although hubby has to do most of the work, I’m good on the advice end as well as keeping him supplied with cold drinks and yummy homemade snacks. This year we are fixing up an area with 6 new peony plants to be surrounded by iris, daffodil and others. We have also created an asparagus patch and been preparing the raised beds for planting. We grow our plants form seeds we harvested last year like tomato and peppers. They are off the heating mat and grow lights getting moved out daily for some natural sunshine preparing them for planting before long.
We both love photography and are blessed with many daily critter visitors. Once the weather warms up as it has now and on sunny days after the work is done, we love to sit on our porch and take photos of all the birds and critters that come to visit us.
On rainy days or just days we aren’t in the mood for physical work, we head to the kitchen. We both love to cook and back. There’s not much as rewarding as getting to eat your achievements and sharing the bounty of the kitchen with others. It’s wonderful to share life with someone you love and have so much in common with. Retirement is great even with the medical issues when you can share it with your soul mate!
Dani says
It is wonderful! Thanks for sharing about your and your soul mate <3
Jcp says
Sit outside and read after I do some decluttering.
Dani says
Yep. Decluttering is something I’m on. Purging is probably a better description. We keep getting rid of stuff and yet there’s still more…
Suzanne Sellner says
Our current spring project besides a kitchen remodel is a landscape refresher. During the “snowmaggeddon” and freeze in Texas some of our plants died, and since the original plantings around our house are about 40 years old, the ones that didn’t die need an upgrade. So, we’ve engaged a landscaper from a nearby nursery to help us plan the project. It should be lovely when finished.
Dani says
Remodels are always fun when they are finished. Hope your landscaping and plants turn out beautiful.
Roxanne C. says
After doing some necessary spring cleaning, I plan to catch up on my TBR pile of books and do some crafting. I am so looking forward to warmer weather and lots of sunshine.

Walking the dog…taking my 28 month old grandson for a ride in the wagon; throwing a ball to the 28 month old & his 4½ year old brother! watching the tulips come up, and the Hyacinths getting bigger…
Jan says
We are downsizing from a 3 bedroom home to an RV so my spring projects include getting settled & finding a home for my ‘stuff’. You inspiration photo is lovely! I will miss my pergola & patio that I enjoyed while reading, but am looking forward to seeing new places!
Andrea says
That photo you shared . . . SWOON! We’re about to start building a house, and we are SO EXCITED (other than the part about paying for it all). We have plans to build a little picnic shelter next to the house, and those lights in your photo would be amazing! So thankful that the weather is finally warming up a bit!
Megan says
I always enjoy seeing things come back to life in the spring. Right now the hyacinths we have out front are blooming so I’m enjoying their beauty and the wonderful aroma they give off. Thank you for the chance to win!
Angela Bascue says
Here in Oklahoma we don’t have much of a Spring and what we do have usually brings the threat of tornadoes. I do love it when it gets nice enough to open the windows and let the fresh air in the house.
R Dee Hutchins says
I love hours alone to read and write. A warm day, allowing the fresh air in, is a treat. Soon those days will be past here in FL, and the AC will be coming on.
Margaret says
We are getting rain in Minnesota so things will start to green up and then it is Spring planting time. I love listening to the birds outside again.
Caryl Kane says
Morning walks are so much nicer in Spring. I also enjoy reading outside.
Traci says
I love to plan and start my garden! Getting out in the sunshine to “play in the dirt”. I love gardening. I keep a small flower bed and a decent size vegetable garden. We love having fresh veggies with just about every meal through summer, so I spend spring prepping and planting.🙂 Our family also LOVES being outdoors for all kinds of things, like hiking, Turkey hunting, mushroom hunting, (fried morel mushrooms are a seasonal delicacy in AR) shooting practice, playing with our dogs, messing with my horse, watching our chickens… our list goes on and on.
Danielle Walther says
Hi Dani,
On a nice warm spring day I love to sit on my parents deck and try and take pictures of the beautiful blue birds that we have and also the house finches we have. I also love taking pictures of the flowers we have around our house. But for right now I can’t take pictures of the flowers because I had total hip replacement a week ago. I am thanking the Lord for the new hip that I have. I can tell you that relearning how to walk is hard. But with doing PT 3x a day. I am getting stronger daily.
I have planted a amaryllis garden and also a iris garden. So I am hoping that I will get to see those flower soon.
Penny says
The ⛱ is the best since I live in Florida thats a good thing. Love going to the beach and reading amazing books especially the Coastal Guardians series
Becky Wade says
I LOVED these photos of you and your family! Like you, I adore writing outside in nice weather. I hope to write outdoors all spring here in Texas before the scorching summer heat drives me inside. 🙂 The back patio addition ideas look fabulous! Can’t wait to see pictures when it’s done.
Angela Johnson says
Very nice pictures of your family! In Spring, my thoughts are on preparing for our garden… I start tomatoes and herbs from seed, ordering seeds to plant, and am giving an old ladder a fresh coat of paint (I have three shelves that I lay across it and that is where I put my pots of herbs and geraniums). I also think about throwing open the windows and doing a ceiling to floor cleaning… I’ve only made it to opening the windows so far (Spring lasts until June, so I don’t need to be in a hurry, lol). Thanks for the giveaway, Happy Spring!
Kimberly Bowie says
I don’t know if I would consider it a fun project, but we are replacing fencing on our cow pasture. I guess the fun part is when all the brokenness is fixed and cows can quit putting their heads through it!
Jen Snell says
Spring always gives me hope that better days are ahead. In Minnesota we truly appreciate the warmer days. I love to go on long walks outside with our dog in spring.
Angeline says
I love going on walks with the family when the weather is nice
Patty says
Since we bought our house a little over four years ago we’ve done many projects. Last year we built a large upper deck and this year or maybe next year we hope to finish the bottom patio area to maybe include a fire pit!
JOAN ARNING says
I’m actually considering putting my house up for sale so am going though things, shredding, and pricing for a yard sale!
Janice Knight says
Hubby & I just did that! I feel much ‘free er’ without all the clutter.
Angie Quantrell says
LOVE the hiking opportunities and the deck/pergola! That would be perfect. I dream of adding one over our patio, but that’s not this year. This year we are adding loft storage in the shop (of our son’s shop). Since we are RV’ing it on his property, we want to get rid of our storage fees. Next is a studio for me. We were going to build, but our county is a mess. And land/houses have gone sky high. So for now, call us RVers. LOL. Glad we have that luxury instead of being forced into something we don’t really want-a giant house with a giant mortgage!
Candi F says
I love how your kids have renamed themselves Captain and Commodore. Imaginations are so awesome! 🙂
I’m enjoying the warmer weather and the sunshine and when I can I love reading outside and getting more vitamin D! 🙂
Kathy Johnson says
I just love to sit on the deck in the warm spring sunshine and read!
Thanks for the giveaway!

We bought a house last fall, so we’ve been working on projects all winter long. But for this spring, we have a steep sidehill that’s terrible to mow, so we’re going to be putting in a perennial groundcover after the danger of frost is gone (late May).
Erika Luther says
I enjoy gardening or going for a walk. Having mild weather and sunshine is nice. Seeing birds making nests in our hanging plants is always fun. Such cute pictures of you and your family!
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
I’m busy preparing my gardens and cleaning up my yard from winter.
Mallori N. says
Once we start getting warmer weather, I like to dig around in our flower gardens. I find it extremely calming to weed quietly alone after a day at work surrounded by others. I also love to sit on our back deck in the sun and read.
Geri Pagel says
We are blessed to live right across the street from a bike/walking trail. I can’t wait for it to be warm enough for us to take advantage of it. I also look forward to planning and planting our garden in the spring, but it will be almost two months before I will be able to get out there. Of course I spend so many hours on our patio, sitting in the warmth reading.
Marie says
Have you been to Longwood Gardens? One of my very favorite places and in your neck of the woods. The grandkids would probably enjoy the Hagley Museum and Gardens — learning about making gunpowder and firing the cannon. Winterthur and the NeMours estate are also must do but not necessarily fun for the little boys.
That trip was one of our favorites and we plan to re-do it if the travel limitations are removed. For now we are enjoying the beauty God has provided in the warm state of Florida. Beaches at sunrise are wonderful.
God bless and thanks for many many many wonderful hours of getting lost in your books. It has made the restrictions easier.
holdenj says
I like being able to work around the yard and garden, uncovering the plants that will be so pleasing the rest of spring and summer! I also enjoy reading outside when it is warm enough.
Jennifer Bretsch says
No big Spring projects in the works. I love to just get outside with my family and enjoy the warmer weather, longer days and beautiful flowers and blossoming trees. Spring here in St. Louis is amazing and it always lifts my spirits when I see the daffodils & tulips blooming and the colorful Dogwoods and Cherry Blossoms!
Maryann says
My favorite way to spend a spring day is sitting on the porch reading a good book while soaking up the sunshine and being serenaded by beautiful bird songs.
Julie says
I do not have any projects in the works…yet. I do plan to take my grandkids to the local zoo over spring break in a couple of weeks. Of course their moms will go along as there are 5 of them and they range in age from 2 to 8. 🙂
Hannah B says
Unfortunately, I have terrible allergies in the Spring, but it’s my favorite season since the weather is perfect in VA. I love gardening in the spring or going out and blowing bubbles with the family. I love looking at the blooms happening in the spring.
Emogene N Oliver says
I live in Georgia and I am a widow. My husband passed away 6 1/2 years ago. My health and “age” does not allow me to do much in the yard and the flowers. I do have someone that mows my large yard. The lady that worked for us in the flowers, etc for about 12 years became sick and no longer able to work outside and hard to find anyone that wants to pull weeds and prune shrubbery. My husband loved to work outside and he planted lots of knock out roses, all kinds of shrubbery and flowers. I enjoy reading your books very much and always look forward to your posts. May God bless you as you continue to write so we have good books to read.
Lisa Hudson says
The picture you posted is what I DREAM of having in my backyard! And, my Man could make that happen in a Weekend!(I married well – he has been a General Contractor & Trim Carpenter since before we were married 33 years ago!) However, we live in MS & presently I can hardly even walk outside to get in a vehicle or something quick like that without my nose running, my eyes itching & becoming very short of breath! Yes, Welcome to POLLEN Season in the South! About a week ago, we experienced something that has not occurred in my 95.5 yr old Daddy’s entire life! We had Pollen CLOUDS! If you’ve ever been in or seen photos of a Texas Dust Storm, that is exactly what the Pollen looked like!! It looked just like RAIN falling from the sky as it was so thick & you couldn’t see through it! It caused me to have a minor asthma attack & I’ve been having migraines. Our side driveway looks like YELLOW snow! While I would LOVE to be able to enjoy this beautiful outdoor area, I would have to wear a Hazmat Suit in order to do so! Thankfully, we have a Sunroom so I can sit in the wonderful Air Conditioning & enjoy reading YOUR books & looking at the beauty of the flora & fauna on the OTHER side of the glass!
