I’m still sun-bathing in the glow of two recent days! I thought I’d share a few photos with you . . . .
The first happy day–my book signing in Midlothian, Texas. To be honest, most of the book signings I’ve done haven’t been well-attended. Inevitably, the vast majority of my readers don’t live near the event. Those who do have busy lives or already own the book(s) I’m signing. After Covid, it seemed even harder to entice people to in-person gatherings. For plenty of signings I’ve spent the bulk of the allotted time chatting with store employees in a cheerful way so they wouldn’t feel as inclined to pity me. Because of that, I typically participate in very few signings. Maybe one or none per calendar year.
Imagine my surprise (and the surprise of Lisa at O’Brien’s Bookshop) when lots of people graciously attended my Midlothian signing. So many that something happened that has never happened at a signing of mine previously. We sold out of a title!

As always, it was a JOY to meet and chat with readers. Thank you so much to everyone who came!
The second happy day–our oldest daughter’s “white coat ceremony” in our hometown of Dallas, Texas.
She started medical school at UT Southwestern a few months ago. It was such a proud and powerful thing–to watch her receive and put on a white coat embroidered with her name. The day had me reflecting back on all the ages and stages of her life. And my journey with her so far as her mother. I’m grateful for it all.

Thanks for keeping up me and all the other authors who participate in this blog! I’m wishing YOU many happy days in the weeks and months to come.

Congrats on your 2 big days. I know you are a proud momma, as you should be.
I’m happy your book signing went so well. If there was one where I lived, I’d be there.
God bless
Kim
Thanks, Kim!
What fun! And what an accomplishment for your daughter! Sharing in your happiness, my friend.
Thanks so much!!
So good to hear of your blessings and joy. God is so good to give those days to us!
Yesss! “God is so good to give those days to us.” Amen!
Such wonderful moments. So happy for you, Becky. Medical school will be a long journey, but I know your daughter will do marvelously well. Such a service-oriented profession for someone with a heart for others. If all goes well, our daughter will be graduating with her PhD this summer. Such a long, hard road, but I’m so proud of her persistence. know God will do wonderful things through her, just as He will with your daughter. 🙂
“Such a service-oriented profession for someone with a heart for others” They spoke about humility and service a lot during the white coat ceremony, which was inspiring to hear. I love that your daughter has been pursuing her PhD. It sounds like she’ll soon be Dr. Witemyer!
Congratulations on both events! What a wonderful achievement for your daughter. I enjoy following your family’s accomplishments.
I love going to book signings. I would be there, but I live in Virginia. Glad you had a sell out.
Thanks, Betty!
Congrats to your daughter! If you lived by me I would definitely go to your book signing!
Aww, thank you Jeanne!
Congrats to your daughter! And so fun that’s she’s able to attend med school in Dallas near you!
It’s been a huge blessing to have her back in our town (and our house). Even though we see her for approximately 1 minute per day. 😉
I think I caught a little bit of your reflected joy, Becky. Warmed me to my toes. Congrats to your daughter. What an amazing achievement. And what an encouragement that signing must have been. I rarely do book signings for the reasons you stated. Back in the “old days” before online bookstores, I did a lot of signings. At my very first signing, the store sold over 250 copies of my book. Needless to say, I had a very skewed expectation of what signings were like. Leading up to the signing, there was a half-page, page one in the local news section write-up about me. Even my first grade teacher came to the event. But the truth about signings caught up eventually when I sometimes had more people asking me where the restroom was than about my book. LOL!!
LOL!! I couldn’t relate more to people asking more about the restroom location than asking about the books. 🙂 250 copies sold at a signing is mind-boggling to imagine!
