Hi friends,
I’m super excited to be chatting with you today. I’ve got something really fun to share with you. I’m joining fellow Bethany House author Amanda Dykes to celebrate the release of her debut novel, Whose Waves These Are, and my upcoming novel, The Killing Tide (August 2019). Since both of our new releases feature lighthouses and coastal settings, we decided to give readers a fun challenge.
You can find out all about it and the two great ways to participate here: Summer Splash Adventure
While we’re on the subject of coastal towns, I wanted to share three fun facts about Wilmington, North Carolina and the surrounding area where The Killing Tide is set.
Surfing!
That’s right, surfing is fabulous in Wrightsville Beach where my hero, Finn Walker, lives. In fact, “National Geographic” named Wrightsville Beach one of the top 20 surf towns in the world for “its mixture of metropolitan amenities with down-home charm including a laid-back beach vibe”. Finn takes full advantages of the waves and starts his day with a sunrise surf. Sometimes even his pooch Layla joins the fun!
Cape Fear
You might recall the name Cape Fear from a really scary movie starring Robert De Niro that came out years ago, but the name comes from the river, which has can be scary in its own right. Sailors named it ‘Cape Fear’ because of the treacherous waters. “Old Baldy,” the lighthouse was built to warn sailors of the sandbars and it’s the oldest lighthouse in North Carolina.
Hollywood East
Wilmington, NC is known as “Hollywood East.” Since Drew Barrymore’s film, Firestarter, was shot on location in Wilmington back in 1984, more than 300 feature films, TV movies and TV shows have been filmed in Wilmington and the surrounding area. Some shows and movies include: Matlock, Iron Man 3, Safe Haven, The Secret Life of Bees, and A Walk to Remember.
Here’s a picture of the industrial port where part of Iron Man 3 was filmed. My husband and I took a guided boat tour and snapped this pic while there.
I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Wilmington and its surrounding area better. And, I hope you’ll enjoy reading about it in The Killing Tide, which releases August 6th!
Be sure to take part in our Summer Splash Adventure! It’s going to be a really fun month!
Hugs,
Dani
