It’s summertime, well, almost. And that means to start dreaming about what you want to do this summer. For me that’s a combination of doing the following things. It’s hoping for time to breathe. Maybe read a few books. Write a few words.
There’s something about summer that always speaks of newness and pause. There’s something about the longer days, and the pinker skies that make me think anything is possible. That just for a minute I can pause and imagine what could be. There’s something about removing school from the schedule that makes me see the possible.
But maybe that’s the time lounging at the pool when the world slows down to moments.
Or maybe it’s the time working with our flowers and seeing what could be amongst the weeds of what is.
We have a black walnut in the backyard, which is making adding our plants to the mix a challenge. There are so many things that don’t like whatever it is that black walnuts add to the soil. But we are having fun playing with the plants and seeing what color we can add that will stay from year to year.
Do you like playing with flowers?
Do you like staring at the sky?
Lounging at the pool? Reading a pile of books?
How do you wile away the hours of summer?

Loved the pictures of the irises and roses, two of my favorite flowers. My rosebush is just starting to open up. It has flowers the color of peaches, gold and pink.

We love picking a destination and having day trips. There are many state parks, National Forests, and lakes near us that we can enjoy free. We star gaze at night and watch meteor showers in August. My kids have almost left the nest now; but we have built wonderful memories.

Love your pictures today. Beautiful flowers. As for your question What do you like to do during the summer? Like you I like to work with flowers. Since we moved to an apartment I usually make up potted planters. At the front of my apartment I put plants that love the sun. At the back I put plants that get only the morning sun or evening sun. Then after I’m finished with my plants I love to sit outside to enjoy them and fuss over them. At night I love to look up into the sky and gaze at God’s beautiful creation of the Stars and the moon. When it’s too hot to go out I love to read in the comfort of my air conditioned apartment.

Your pictures are beautiful! I haven’t been able to work my flower beds in over two years because of knee problems. My husband was busy taking care of his dad. He recently passed and now my husband has gotten into working and planting in our flower beds and potting new ones. He’s really into succulents! His dad and mom owned a flower shop for many years and I think he’s carrying on their legacy in his own way, which is very touching to me.
I believe in perennials. We have many of those including knock out roses and one white out, which he named after his dad “Berle”.

It’s not our time of the year to be thinking about summer as I am in Western Australia, but when it is, I love reading a pile of books. Then again, I like to do that at any time of the year! I have my own little library, (I’m a book addict), and loan books out to friends. Some I finished reading, along with my friends and so I donated box loads of books to our local library. They didn’t have many Christian books, so I helped.
Summer get extremely hot here, so heading out to see a movie in air conditioned comfort is on my to do list.
I love looking at flowers. The house we rent doesn’t have much in the way of gardens so I get to see flowers when I go to plant nurseries. There are some flowers that I really enjoy. Clivias, hibiscus and other things.
I enjoy those things, but definitely not the heat. I have fibromyalgia, so extreme temperatures don’t do good things to me. It’s not often that I’m not in some form of cooling. Unfortunately that’s things have to be. Oh well, there are still the good things.

I love reading and doing genealogy! I also spend two or three hours ( a couple times a week.) a my friends’ creek. I spend that time with God, read my Bible and listen to my music. That’s one of my favorite things to do.
