Lessons Learned on Igniting Passion

April 28, 2016 By Cara Putman

Yesterday, Purdue University had a massive fundraising event. It was only the third year, but this event (Purdue Day of Giving) raised more than $18 million from close to 13,000 gifts. As you'll see from the photos, I kind of had fun with it. [Tweet "What can authors learn from #PurdueDayofGiving? @Cara_Putman shares. #amreading"] Through out the day there were different competitions. I … [Read more...]

How to support a writer on deadline

April 14, 2016 By Cara Putman

I'm literally in the last hours of a race toward deadline on my next book. God willing and the creek don't rise, I'll turn it in tomorrow. If you're on Facebook or Instagram, you'll occasionally see posts from authors about going dark, so that got me thinking...how can readers encourage writers in those drudgery days of little sleep, blocked creativity, and panic-induced, wild-eyed mania?[Tweet … [Read more...]

Ebooks or Paper? Do You Care?

March 10, 2016 By Cara Putman

The other day I woke up dreaming about the ebook v. paperback debate. It’s something authors do. Something readers probably understand. I am a give-me-a-physical-book-I-can-hold kind of reader. You see, while I’m an author I adore books! It’s not unusual for me to inhale two or three a week while managing the rest of my life including homeschooling, lecturing, and writing. I read like I … [Read more...]

Writing Chaos Putman Style

January 28, 2016 By Cara Putman

When I started writing a little more than ten years ago, I had a 4 year old and a 1 year old. It was relatively easy for me to write around their schedules. Then I had a third child. Then we added a 4th. All that time the older two thought they should be growing up. I might have thought it was a challenge to find time to write while the kids napped or after bedtime, but I've since learned those … [Read more...]
