Technology: A Love-Hate Relationship

January 28, 2015 By Robin Lee Hatcher

I have been battling problems with the Inspired by Life and Fiction blog as well as with my own website for over a week. You may have noticed that it has been down more than once during that time. I have spent hours and hours on the phone with tech support, and as I write this post, I have no idea if we have a final solution in sight.

My friends know that I am a bit of a techie. I love learning new stuff on the computer. I love getting a new device. I enjoy working with graphics and designing websites. For me, it is another creative outlet. And sometimes it gives me just enough of a break from the work-in-progress to allow me to get some fresh ideas.

But when technology goes awry, I’m not quite as fond of it. And since all of those hours I have been on the phone with tech support are hours when I haven’t been writing, I’ve begun to get just a little bit cranky.

So, if you see that this site is down again or if one of our members has been unable to post to the blog on their regular day/time because of an outage, would you say a little prayer for the blog problems and for me? Because I much prefer the cheerful version of me … and so does my dear hubby.

Robin, I so appreciate all of the work you do on the tech side to make this such a great place to hang out. Hugs, my friend!

Thank you, Robin, for working to get our blog up and running again! Technology problems are SO frustrating. I manage my own web site and (usually) I’m glad that I do because I can update it whenever I like and because it’s so economical to do it myself. But there have been times when I’ve run into technology problems with it that have made me super cranky/crazy. I’ve been known to say things to my computer along the lines of, “You’re supposed to be working! Why aren’t you working?!!!” 🙂

We just had a technology conference for writers called WriteTech. I knew that there would be opposition concerning technology, so expected it and asked for prayer, just as you are doing.

For months while preparing our website had repeated crashes, glitches, problems. GGRRRRR. The final week before the conference I was trying to print itineraries. My printer ran out of ink. I drove to the library for their free printing service. The machine broke in the middle of the job. I drove to another library. That machine jammed, but finished the job eventually. The day before the conference in the middle of all the final emails, the internet went out in my portion of the city for half the day.

We continued to pray. I had a backup plan for conference day in case there was no internet, no power, etc. expecting the worst. No glitches. Prayer worked.

Yes, will pray for your technology. And yes, my husband also knows the “other” me. 🙂

Poor Robin….I’m so sorry you’re experiencing these computer hassles. 🙁
But I will say that I’d been thinking it was a problem with MY computer – – not this blog site. (So I’m glad I didn’t
fuss at my computer too much, LOL).
Praying that things will run smoothly so you’ll feel better and have time to WRITE!! 🙂
Gentle hugs from Georgia, Patti Jo

Oh Robin! I hear you! Having just switched the blog part of my website over to WordPress, it’s the future tech glitches I’m fearing. However, the up side to this means I’m in control of my own site. And oh, how I understand cranky!

LOL! Now when I’m cranky over tech issues, I’ll think of you and know you are commiserating. Thanks, Ellie!
