Ok, I realize it’s Tuesday (or later) as you read this, but it’s Monday as I write this! How do you feel about Mondays? Now that I work from home, I don’t get the Sunday-night-dread-of-Monday that I once did. But I admit I used to be guilty of the “Moan, it’s Monday” mantra. In our adult Sunday school class at church we are going through a series called, “The Monday Switch” and I am finding it convicting and refreshing to re-think our attitudes about work, which we are all designed by God to do.
Whether you work in an office, school, business, as a stay-at-home-mom, or as I writer like me, I think there might be something useful in the series and its short videos for you, too. We all want to use the gifts and skills God has given us for His glory–but don’t we all get burned out from time to time? Long for a break? Need His guidance? I do.
Wouldn’t it be great to find more satisfaction in our work, whatever it is? A greater sense of working for God and with God? I sure would. I love this WORK PRAYER, and hope it helps you, too. I’m posting it here with credit and thanks to mondayswitch.com:
How do you feel about Mondays?

Hi Julie
This post is accessable, hope all is working “just right” soon. I am enjoying all the post on FB from the team.
Good–thanks, Pauline. Apparently, it’s only a home page issue. Weird.
I work part time and I don’t always work on Mondays but I do work three out of four weekends. With a brother that has been recently paralyzed from back surgery, I’m just thankful I can get out of my bed and walk. At anytime God could take away our ability to see, hear, walk or the use of out arms. I’m thankful I can work and I’m also thankful I have a job.
Good perspective, Gail! Sorry about your brother, but a good reminder for the rest of us to be thankful and not take anything for granted.
Hi Julie,
Work is a necessary part of most ordinary folks’ day. If you like what you do, work is much easier. I am retired and Monday no longer seems different than most days. It is interesting how work skews one’s view of life sometimes. Nice post! I like the prayer.
Mary
Yes, you’re right, Mary. I do like what I do (most days :)) and that helps a lot. Thankful to be doing what I’ve always wanted. Enjoy your retirement!
Maybe I weird, but I love my job and look forward to going back to work on Mondays.
That IS weird! Donna, you brighten any place you are–and the folks at Bethany House are blessed to have you!
This prayer can be used by everyone. Whether they work outside the home or are retired. It’s a beautiful prayer. Thanks
Shirley
You’re welcome, Shirley. Thanks for commenting.
Julie,
Thanks for this prayer, and it has been a blessing being on the team.
That’s great to hear, Michelle. Appreciate you!
Ever since I have been intentional about taking a Sabbath on Sunday, I have found Monday to be my favorite day–a fresh start for a new week!
Wow–good for you, Zanese! While I wouldn’t say Monday is my favorite day, we do try to rest on the Sabbath, though sometimes when deadlines loom, I am not as diligent about it as I’d like to be. Thanks for that inspiring thought!
When you reach my age and you wake up in the morning than everyday is a good day. Lol.
🙂
I am a stay-at-home mom of one toddler and another on-the-way. Since I am sooooooo tired due to pregnancy, and my toddler is fully immersed in tantrum-mode, I dread Mondays because my husband goes back to work, even though my housework never stops, not even for the weekend! I dread the lack of support I get in dealing with my son. So I guess it can hit any of us, in different ways! But I need that reminder, too, just like anyone else!
Thanks for sharing, Courtney. You are in an exhausting season of life–I remember! Take care of yourself, mom!
I have all your books, mostly audiobooks, and have loved them all. I have listened to all at least twice and liked the audio version of Lady of Milkweed Manor so much that I got the kindle book as well. Ivjust loaned my copy of The Secret of Pembrooke Park to a friend to read on her trip to Hawaii because I enjoyed it so much and wanted to share it with her. I hope you are writing another book because I an ready for more.
Wonderful–I love the audiobooks, too. And yes, I am working on another book. Thanks for asking!
I try to take Sundays off in a LOT of stuff so that when Monday rolls in I’m ready to get back to routine and work! 🙂 But of coarse some days drag! LOL! But I usually enjoy them for the most part.
Many Blessings, Amada (pronounced: a.m.a.th.a)
Cool name! Thanks for commenting, Amada.
What a great Monday prayer! Even though I enjoy the work I do, sometimes Monday is just a Monday! I love that prayer, especially the energize part – I’m praying that right now 🙂
Hope it helped, Jamie!
Julie, thank you for this post. Your words and the prayer serve as a valuable wake up call and much needed perspective. Rather than dread the loss of freedom and family time that the end of the weekend brings, we should retain a spirit of gratitude. That can be especially difficult on a cold, snowy Monday (or Tuesday) morning.
Glad you appreciated the prayer as I did. Thanks for commenting, Dawn.
Thanks for sharing the prayer!
PS I just got a late Christmas present, your latest book “the secret of pembrooke park”. I cannot wait to read it! Ahhh!! 🙂
You’re welcome. Hope you enjoy the book, Marisa!
Monday’s are my favorite day because my husband, Mark is a truck driver and he has Monday off. It’s Tuesday that I am not a fan of because he’s out of town until Wednesday afternoon.
Aw, that’s great, Andi. Glad you have a good reason to love Mondays!
I don’t usually mind Monday’s because I babysit some pretty sweet kids 🙂 But I don’t like looking at all my weekly tasks that seem to mount up pretty high!
Hi Rachel. Thanks for commenting. Have fun with those kids!
Yes, it is a Tuesday, but I could have used the cleansing power of this simple prayer in my work day today.
Thanks, Lisa. I find that prayer powerful, too.
While I do miss getting to sleep in late, I look forward to Mondays as it is the start of a new work week. I view it this way; we were created to work (Gen 1:26-31 & Gen 2:15) from the very beginning. We are given a day of rest so that way we can spend time with our Heavenly Father and Work Master who teaches us how to create for HIS Glory like HE does (Gen 1:31 & Gen 2:2-3). After that day, we can go back to our work with new energy knowing that our labor is to ultimately bring praise and honer to our Creator.
Even though I love my job there are some days that I just do not want to go back to work, by remembering that I was created to bring glory to my Lord it challenges me to view my work as not for myself, but to and for GOD in all I do.
So well said, Susan. Thanks so much!
Hi Julie, I agree that Mondays can be rough! I especially loved the last part of the prayer you posted: “even in this day’s most stressful moments, may I rest in You.” What a great reminder that our Lord is with us despite the tough Mondays. 🙂
PS: I appreciate your hard work (yes, even on Mondays); your books are all on my favorite list! I have loved them from the first page of Lady of Milkweed Manor. Keep up the great work. 🙂
Thanks so much, Christine!
Each day belongs to the Lord and don’t fall into the Monday blahs much. If ever I do grumble, my hubby reminds me that I do my work unto the Lord and not for man. It helps to get your mind on the right focus. But even more so battling autoimmune diseases, I’m thankful for each day God gives me. He gives me another day to be a blessing to others. Alleluia!
Sorry to hear you are battling health issues, Mary. But PTL you’re not battling Monday blahs, too! Take care.
This is so encouraging! I am a teacher and LOVE working with my students, but I am definitely guilty of the Monday moan. Thanks for the reminder to be grateful for this wonderful life I have.
You are very welcome, Dede. God bless you for being a teacher. So important!
Thanks for sharing this post and the prayer, Julie.
Now that I’m home full-time, I don’t dread Mondays at all.
I’ll admit when I taught school I did dread them, which was really silly – – because most of the time my
young students (first grade & kindergarten) were calmer and better-behaved on Mondays than they were
the other days of the week, LOL. And I truly LOVED my job and working with those precious children. 🙂
I think it’s just an “oh no, the weekend is over” mindset. 😉
Hi Patti Jo, I think you’re right. A lot of the Monday attitude is just habit. So hard not to moan when everyone else is! But I’m like you–now Mondays are A-OK. 🙂
It depends on the week, but I love this prayer. Just pinned it so I can find it again on the hard Mondays!
I haven’t been working in awhile, but hope to again. That is a wonderful prayer!
Since my husband and I haven’t been working, we enjoy going and doing things. It’s funny, we don’t look forward to the weekends as much because the traffic gets crazy with everyone out of work. So we love Mondays because everyone has gone back to work and gotten off the streets! LOL
It’s funny how things change when you retire or get out of the work force. I kind of like Monday’s now.
I always enjoy Mondays. A fresh start. I can do anything. Wednesday/Thursday however are a different story!
I love your books! Jane Austen too~ I am disabled, so my job is full time reader!
Sometimes I dread Mondays but when life is in pretty good balance it’s easier to be excited for a new week.
I find that if you enjoy what you do that there is not the same ‘dread’ feeling come Monday morning. Right now, it is year end review time at work and as I meet with the younger members of the team, I have been talking to them about career aspirations and the importance of finding a role that meets their strengths and interests.
(oops, hit enter to soon)
Because having a job that you enjoy makes for a much happier career.
Mondays are not the most stressful day of the week for me… but it is difficult for me to get out the door any day of the week since I am NOT a morning person. I take it one morning at a time with coffee in hand!
