Hi friends,
I’m excited to be back with you this week, and today I’m going to share the first C of Creativity and in the coming weeks I’ll be sharing a couple more. As a writer finding ways to feed my creativity is really important. My mentor and friend, Dee Henderson, told me a long time ago that to write fully, you have to have a full life. That lesson was one of the best she ever imparted to me. To stir and keep my creativity fresh, I need to fill my tank often.
Curiosity
The first C of Creativity is Curiosity. I’m naturally curious, and I always have been. Learning new things, trying new adventures, and visiting new places fuels my curiosity, which in turn, drives my creativity.
I love to travel and explore new places. Fortunately, my family has been blessed with the ability to travel often—even if it’s simply a weekend trip to our friend’s condo at the beach. In my last post, I shared about how the beach is my #1 inspiration spot. Today, I’m going to share about several of our trips.
Just a couple weeks ago, my husband and I were in North Carolina celebrating our 27th anniversary. We visit there yearly as it’s such a rugged and beautiful area. This year was also the year for me to research Wilmington and Wrightsville beach as they are the setting for the first book in my upcoming Coastal Guardians series. I’ll be reveal the title and cover of the first book in the series on my Facebook Author Page on October 16th so I hope you’ll drop by and check it out. I’d love to know what you think.
Wilmington is a really cool town. Unfortunately, two days later, we were mandatorily evacuated from our beach retreat in Topsail, NC and I’m praying for all the folks who call that area home. The Coast Guard station we visited on Sunday was blocked my several feet of water just a few days later.
But, while we were there, we did some exploring. As I mentioned, we visited the Coast Guard station—well, the outside at least, we took a guided boat tour of the Cape Fear river, which used to be called the Golden river for its golden-brown appearance. Honestly, it looks blacker to me, but it’s really cool and everything we learned during our cruise was fascinating. Taking trips like this and exploring the settings for my novels helps me to weave in some fun facts and a lot of local culture. And, of course, no trip is complete without trying the local coffee spot. This time it was Port Java Coffee, and if you’re ever in Wilmington, it’s absolutely delicious.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
Chat again soon,
Dani

Was the Cape Fear River the place that the movie Cape Fear was about? The older version had Robert Mitchum in it.
Sounds like a lovely trip!
Dani says
Yep. Sure was the place that movie was made with Robert Dinero. And, it was lovely. Thanks so much for dropping by.

I look forward to taking a bookish trip to Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach next year when I visit my sister. I always love visiting the settings for books! We usually head to Wilmington for a house tour and an ice cream from Kilwin’s. I was there just days ahead of the the hurricane and can only pray that everyone in the area recovers quickly from it. Anxiously waiting for your title and cover reveal!

Oh soooo cool. Ice cream from Kilwin’s—yum! We were there for the hurricane and got evacuated. Feel so bad for everyone living there.
Aww. Thanks so much, Joy.

I couldn’t agree with you more! Curiosity really is an important element of creativity. I’m a curious person, too! That’s partly why I, too, love to explore new places and try new things. 🙂
