Hi Friends,
I’m so happy to be back with you this week. Today I’m sharing another C of Creativity—this week that C is comfort. Yep, comfort. For me, as a writer and a reader, I like to have certain things around me while I write. Rather like Maya Angelou needed to have a deck of cards, legal pads, and the Bible with her (among other things) or James Joyce needed crayons, a white coat and a comfy horizontal surface (I can’t make these things up), I have my own writer quirks or comforts I want nearby, as do several of my writing pals.
“For me it’s coffee, fluffy socks, a journal to jot down notes and loose ends, and my cell phone cause I oddly research on it even when a laptop is in front of me.” –Jaime Jo Wright
“A mug of colored pens, blank paper and water.” -Katherine Reay
She’s speaking my language with colored pens. For me it’s my Frixion erasable pens in a variety of colors. Since I write all my first drafts longhand and I write by the seat-of-my-pants, which simply means I don’t plot, which also means a lot of changing my mind. Erasable pens allow me the flow and brightness of ink (rather than using a pencil) while still letting me know nothing is set in stone.
Next, as you can see from the picture above, I use a colorful notebook. My favorite style of notebook and the one I’ve written the last six books in, are the Circa notebooks from Levenger. They are really cool. They are disc bound and that allows me to put new pages in, tear older pages out, and my favorite part—shift pages around.
Last but not least of my main three necessities is coffee in one of my favorite mugs.
I collect mugs.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I drop things often. I earned the nickname Grace for my lack thereof at a very young age, but by losing a mug to the floor here and there, the collection hasn’t gotten completely out of hand…yet. When I travel to new places, I get a mug to remind me of the trip. I have mugs from a wide variety of places in the states and from Europe. Each one holds a special memory. Now what goes inside the mug is just as important as the mug itself. Always Kona roasted Kauai coffee, occasionally with a smidge of Godiva Dark Chocolate Coffee grounds mixed in. Talk about yummy!
There are many more things I adore having around me such as a well-lit, and sunny-if possible room, a comfy chair, sitting Indian-style, and so on, but that’s probably enough for today.
In case you’d like to see, here’s a pic of my writing space:
I hope you have an amazing week!
Blessings,
Dani

Dani’s traveling home from a trip today and doesn’t have access to the Internet. She wanted to let everyone know that she’ll reply when she can. 🙂

Dani, did you know your e-book collection Alaskan Courage series (all 5 books together) is on sale for $4.99?
Dani says
I did, but thanks so much for sharing. It’ll be on sale through the end of the month. Last I looked, it was actually 3.99 on Christian Book Distributors.

Oh my gosh! I have the mug, Don’t annoy the author… My son gave it to me for Mother’s Day this year. It goes with me everywhere I present my books. Thank you for sharing your writing tips with us. I’ll have to tell you, you are one of my 3 favorite authors, whose work helps me when I get stuck. Thank you.
Dani says
Aww. Thanks so much. LOL. Isn’t it a great mug 🙂
