The End

February 28, 2018 By Robin Lee Hatcher

On Monday of this week, I typed THE END on the book that will be my 79th release (releasing early 2019). I immediately began what I call my “read and polish” stage. This is my last attempt before sending it to my editor to get rid of typos and about a thousand justs as well as to catch any glaring errors.

In Julie’s blog post on Tuesday, Write, Read, Revise, Repeat, she shared her process during the revision stage. I’m not there yet. I won’t be there for about a month.

So for now, once I email the manuscript to my editor today or tomorrow, I will take a few days to clean my office, work on my taxes, and write my midterm essay for my film class. And then it will be time to get to work on my next book. I need to take advantage of the time waiting for the revision letter to get well into the next book so I won’t be so far behind later.

Not only did I finish another book in February but I also celebrated 34 years as a published author. I remember as if it were yesterday driving to my very first book signing. There had been a serious snowstorm the previous night, and the roads were very slick. Despite that (and thanks to an article in the local newspaper) over a hundred people, including my first grade teacher, showed up that day. Precious memory. (Especially since I’ve also had signings where only family members showed up. 😄 )

So here is my great big thanks to all the readers who have been on this journey with me. It’s been such a privilege to get to write so many stories through the years. I’ve worked with eleven publishers and many talented, wonderful editors over the course of my career. I’ve experienced some high highs and some low lows. But what a joy, even during the lows, to know that I’ve been able to do what God created me to do. What a blessing.

P.S. When I shared on Facebook the opening screen shot, someone asked why I’d blurred the words. Uh, because I don’t want to share my ending before any readers have had the chance to read the beginning and middle. LOL!!

Hi Robin from sunny Australia! Thank you for your inspiring words. As a published author of one year, I find those sorts of numbers mind-boggling – but encouraging also, to know that with persistence and commitment, an author can have a long career. God bless you and your writing – and may you be refreshed in a well-earned break 😀
