Each Sunday “Inspired by Life…and Fiction” shares a Christian novelist’s newest book and the garden spots where they find inspiration.

Liz Tolsma has lived in Wisconsin most of her life, and now resides next to a farm field with her husband, their son and two daughters. All of their children have been adopted internationally. Her novella, Under His Wings, appeared in the New York Times bestselling collection, A Log Cabin Christmas. Her debut novel, Snow on the Tulips, released August 2013 and she’s been writing ever since. Liz says, “As every perennial gardener knows, your garden is never really complete. You’re always moving something…digging a plant up, putting in new beds…” When not busy tweaking her garden or putting words to paper, Liz enjoys reading, walking, kayaking, and camping with her family. Deborah Raney

DEBORAH RANEY's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title and launched Deb’s writing career. Forty books later, she's still creating stories that touch hearts and lives. Her novels have won RWA's RITA Award, the ACFW Carol Award, the National Readers Choice Award, and the HOLT Medallion. She is also a three-time Christy Award finalist. Deb is on faculty for several national writers’ conferences and served on the executive board of the 2,500-member American Christian Fiction Writers organization for 18 years before retiring in 2022. She is a recent transplant to Missouri, having moved with her husband, Ken Raney, from their native Kansas to be closer to kids and grandkids. They love road trips, e-biking, Friday garage sale dates, and breakfast on the screened porch overlooking their wooded backyard.

That one is a version of a penstemon. It didn’t survive last winter, and I can’t find it around here again. I miss it. It was so gorgeous!

Hi Liz. I see the Tiffany lamp on your night stand. That is because it looks familiar. I have one just like it in my nightstand. All your books sound interesting and I like the title Snow on the Tulips . We’ve seen a few springs like this in southern Ohio. Looking forward to hearing more about you in the future.

Thanks! The Tiffany-style lamp came from my husband’s grandmother. I love that style. My pendant lights in my kitchen are the same style.
