As I dive back into working on a new book to be released next year, I’m going to be sharing about a writer’s process of taking a book from the seed of an idea to an actual book on the shelf. My plan is to post each Monday and Friday about a different aspect of the writing life and a book’s journey to publication. If you’d like to come along as I share the various aspects of writing a novel, please join me over on Deborah Raney’s Readers Group! (Be sure to read to the end for a couple of great opportunities!)
Here are just a few of the topics I’ve covered in the series so far:
Today I shared about ways I get in the frame of mind to write, and also how I set the mood for the scene I’ll be working on. As part of that post in the series I have a fun giveaway that will help you set the mood for reading my new book (and the other two books that come first in the series). See how you can enter HERE. And keep reading to find out how to get a free ebook…
Finally, my novel Insight is a BookBub Featured Deal today and the ebook is free! Click on the image below for details. (But hurry! That “price” is for today only.) If you don’t already follow me (and the other wonderful authors of Inspired by Life…and Fiction!) on BookBub, it’s a fantastic way to learn about our newest novels, special sales and giveaways, and to see a list of all the books we’ve each written.

Thank you for sharing your process with us, Deb! 🙂
As one of your long-time (and biggest!) fans, having a look into your writing world is fascinating for me.
Besides loving your writing style, I always enjoy seeing your home decor. But I do have a question, please: Do you ever struggle with clutter?( Papers, etc.) Battling the clutter seems to be an ongoing project for me, LOL. If only I could convince all my cats to help me sort through my clutter, I’d have more time for writing and reading! 😉
Hugs, Patti Jo

Awww, Patti Jo. Thank you for your kind words. And yes, sometimes clutter gets the best of me, but it helps a lot that I married a VERY neat and tidy man. I never have to pick up after Ken, so that encourages ME to pick up after myself too. I also try to put junk mail in the recycling immediately after opening the mail. I only have a couple of magazine subscriptions, and we pay all but one of our bills online, so those things have really helped to control clutter. All the best, and if you figure out how to train those cats to work for you, let me know! 😉

I just read your posts and appreciate the look into an author’s creative process – just fantastic!
I taught 5th grade writing for 23 years. Heaven only knows how I did that, because I am not a writer!!
Thanks, Deb!

I am enjoying reading about your writing process so much since you are one of my favorite authors! Thank you so much for the Kindle offer! I am looking forward to reading Insight once again since it has been quite some time since I read it last.

Thanks so much, Jeanne! I hope you enjoy it as much the second time around!

It’s fun hearing how a “seed” of an idea becomes a story. Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your writing world and for the free book! 😀

I’m actually having fun writing the posts. The whole series was Ken’s idea, and I just keep thinking of new things to add!
