I often talk about One Word and having a theme for your year. I think there is power in asking God what His word is for me. Asking Him to guide and direct me as I pursue Him in a new year. I’ll often do it through reading books and studying my Bible.
I also do it be wearing reminders. Yesterday I wore bracelets with a single word: Hope and Release. My necklaces said Brave and Kind. I wear them almost like beautiful, yet simple armor to remind me of who God says I am and who He says He is.
I’ve discovered two companies that make the necklaces and bracelets that I’m arming myself with. Crowning Jewels has an amazing blog, and the jewelry is elegant and meaningful.
I also wanted to make sure you knew about A Gilded Line and her One Word special. Through the end of January if you buy a One Word bracelet ($12-16), she’ll include a second for free. Why? So that when you’re telling someone about the meaning of your bracelet, you can give it to them. I love the heart behind it. I’ve given many of her bracelets away, and love the simple, clean look.
I just ordered mine for this year last night. I couldn’t pick one word, so will be getting two that say Restored and two with Beloved. I’m already praying about who I can give the extras to. Ironically, Beloved is the spiritual theme for the heroine in the book I’m writing. It’s always interesting to see how God parallels a character’s journey in my life…or I parallel the character’s journey with mine.
Do you have something like these necklaces or bracelets that you wear to remind yourself who you are? I’d love to know! I’m always on the look out for small businesses with purpose that I can support.

I wear two rings that my husband gave me. One has Cor 13:13 and Faith Hope and Love on it. The word Love is bigger than the other two. My other ring has the footprints around it and “It was then that I carried you” on the inside. I wear these all most all the time.

Those sound beautiful!

I don’t have anything, but I love the idea of it. I really resonate with Beloved. I’ll have to check out the bracelets; thank you!

Beloved is such a rich word. I’ve literally been focus on Be Loved and love is large for two weeks!

I have two bracelets that my mom gave me that say faith and hope. I like them, but they are a bit too large, and I’m afraid they will slip off and I will lose them, so I don’t wear them often. I love the idea of wearing jewelry with meaning though. I have a necklace from Scotland that reminds me of a story I want to write someday. It is a HeatherGem. They are manufactured in Scotland from pressed and dyed stems of the native heather. Each is unique. We visited the town where the factory is located when we were there. You can order them online. I love them. I now have 3.

Heather gems sound beautiful! What a great story hook.

I have a bracelet that says Faith and Love. I also have a new necklace that says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” which an author sent me recently. I’m going to enjoy wearing it.

Intent is similar to the bracelets you wear. My husband and I read a book where we were challenged to pick a word for the year. We prayed about it and the word kindness came to me. I got it put on an intent bracelet and it reminds me that all people need kindness. My husband chose servant, and that he is thanks to God.

Love it! What amazing words.

I have a few crosses. I switch up wearing different ones. I make jewelry so the necklace would be easy to make. I have a secret prayer partner. This would be a great idea to give her for one of those gifts! Giving her a book would be a dead giveaway! My word is Rejoice for this year. Thanks for the suggestion!
Cara Putman says
I bet you could make some amazing gifts!

I’m not much of a jewelry person either but love it when it has purpose behind it. Here’s another one: https://www.etsy.com/listing/556885072/copper-wood-enough-necklace-handmade?ref=shop_home_feat_3

What a great word! So many layers to it, Angie. And thanks for letting me know you loved Delayed Justice!

The past two years I have gotten bracelets with my word on it. This year my sister gave me one and I love wearing it as a reminder to listen to God’s whisper…my word this year is WHISPER. 🙂 I’ve found having a word as a focus for the year really streamlines all my goals. It’s strange, but at the end of every year, I can see God’s hand in my life that points to that particular word.
Cara Putman says
Sherrinda, what a beautiful word!!!

I don’t have any “word” jewelry, but after ready your email I’m thinking I need to get some. My word for this year is PEACE. Little did I know at the beginning of the year how much I would need peace. With the government shutdown continuing, God’s peace has been overwhelmingly amazing. I pray I can continue to rest in His Peace through all this craziness.
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
I don’t have any word jewelry but love the concept. Beautiful.

I love wearing my necklaces with C.S. Lewis quotes and Bible verses on them to work. I feel like they’re guarding me, in a weird way (or rather, reminding me that God is), and they encourage me when it’s a hard day.

I think your idea of praying to God for a word is an inspirational idea. I’m going to do that too. My reminders are my silver cross earrings and I listen to Christian music on the radio while driving and everyday God speaks to me through these lyrics.
Linda McFarland says
I arm myself with God’s Word and inspirational books. My word is Delight and I am reading through the Bible to delight in God’s Word!
E.F.B. says
I don’t have any jewelry like this but I love the idea behind it. I arm myself by reading the Bible and trying to surround myself with godly people who know and embody God’s truths as well.
Cheryl Hart says
I’ve chosen one word for the year that becomes two. Humankind: Be both. 🙂

I arm myself with the truth by memorizing scripture and mediating on it. I also write out verses in the morning.

Those bracelets are so beautiful and inspiring!
I pick at least one Bible verse each day and calligraphy/hand-letter it in my notebook. It’s an encouraging and fun way to learn the Bible.
Thanks for the giveaway!

As a 1st grade Sunday School teacher, I feel really challenged to memorize the scripture verses my kiddos are working on. There is no better armor than the word of God! Love this idea to encourage other women!!
