Two weeks ago we celebrated our son Kurt’s upcoming marriage to his fiance Kellie Fuselier with a wedding shower here in Nashville.
A dear friend of mine (waving to you Kim Pressley) hosted the shower and oh, she did such a beautiful job. Don’t you just love people who have the gift of hospitality? I mean, everything Kim touches just turns into Magnolia Farms or Southern Living gorgeous!
And Kim is so creative. She bought these cute little white plastic pumpkins, antique painted them, cut the top off, stuck a Solo cup inside and made it a planter!
And she ordered the prettiest napkins from online that matched the invitations she’d sent out.
I think it was Kellie’s mother Leslie who came up with the idea to buy a Bible and have friends and family underline their favorite verse(s) and then sign a note for Kellie & Kurt in the margin. Love that! Talk about a lasting (and living) keepsake.
The lovely couple!
Me with Kellie’s beautiful mom Leslie. Just love her (and Kellie’s dad Phil too, although I never grabbed a pic of him and Joe that day. Mental note: do that at the rehearsal dinner.)
Leslie and I don’t have fun together at all. Nope. Not at all. : }
And still no fun being had here. : ) Oh how I love these people. From L to R: Joe, my better half, our daughter Kelsey, Kim Pressley and her ornery—can’t you tell by his smile—husband Jerry, moi, then Kellie & Kurt
It was a wonderful coed brunch shower and we’re so excited for December 6th to arrive…the wedding day!
Being the mother of the groom, I’m working on the rehearsal dinner and have most of the details confirmed and set. Again, another fun time ahead.
Kellie is the answer to our long prayed prayer for our son Kurt to find a godly woman to share his life with. God answers in his perfect timing and I’m so grateful he brought Kellie and Kurt—and our families—together.
In addition to their vocations, Kellie and her twin sister Kristen also have a passion for leading worship. One of my favorite songs of theirs is the acoustic version of Spirit of God. . .
I love Kellie and Kristen’s heart for worship, their heart for the Lord, and for how God is using the talent he’s given them to lift up the name of Jesus and to draw others closer to Himself.
So tell me all of you former mothers of grooms (and brides), any advice you’d give me for the rehearsal dinner? Or the wedding? Any special memories you have of the day your children got married?
I’m an open vessel waiting to drink it all in!
Love you, friends,
Tammy

Such a special shower of love. Congratulations to everyone. December 6th is my wedding date – 51 years ago. As for hosting the rehearsal dinner – it is a great time to relax and have fun. As the wedding day is so close, emotions are high and even if it is pizza, it is the celebration that counts.

Hi Tammy! I’ve been both the mother of the bride and groom, with fond memories of the pre-wedding and wedding events. My son was married in CA and had said that they would take care of the rehearsal dinner – I live in IN – but three weeks before the wedding he asked if I could plan it. Yikes! And he had specific requests, like having it at the church hall, and everything had to be brought in; dishes, utensils, food, serving pieces, etc. But my daughter -in-law has wonderful friends who could be my hands and feet until I arrived days before the event. I so enjoyed working with them and getting to know her friends! What I learned was to accept help when offered, and reaped the benefits of new friendships. My daughter was married out of town, but closer to home, she planned everything but asked my opinions which made me feel more a part of it. I also had a wonderful hostess friend who planned her shower. I have great memories of everything! Will be thinking of you as the wedding arrives, have fun!

Wonderful pictures for such an exciting event! Praying for the wedding ahead and a beautiful future!
We had a rehearsal dinner in our home at our son’s request. Friends made pans of lasagna and everyone was happy and fed.
Our daughter was married in California – three thousand miles from us in Virginia. She chose to be married in Eagle Castle Winery in Paso Robles, a true fairytale setting. Her friends took care of amazing decorations and catering. All we had to do was show up. Her father married them, and her grandfather gave her away. I kept my phone on during the ceremony so family in Virginia could hear. Then, after the couple left, the five of us in attendance were able to tour Hearst Castle, the Reagan Library, and a few other sights before flying home.
So happy for you all!

Thanks for those prayers, Betty, and for sharing your experiences. I would love to visit those sites you mentioned. What a memorable time you all had!

Congratulations to all! Looks like a lovely party (and soon-to-be lovely wedding and marriage)! Our son’s dress rehearsal was a bust. You just have to relax and enjoy the day. Making memories. They were married at a state park way out in the middle of LITERALLY nowhere. 30 miles out at the base of the mountains. We wanted to do a walk through, so the wedding party and family members drove out to see how to stage the big event. We took fried chicken, salad, etc., a big meal, to serve picnic style. However, come time to eat, we realized the place was inhabited by yellow jackets. Once they caught whiff of the chicken, it was all over. We tried sneaking bites, eating from beneath napkins, putting out a free piece for them…we finally gave up and packed it all together and went home. They were not after us, just the food. But you couldn’t get away from them. We were afraid of eating one! So unless your dress rehearsal is outdoors in a forest filled with hungry yellow jackets miles from anywhere, you should be good! We all remember the two days with much laughter and fondness. We won’t talk about the grass fire that blocked roads on the wedding day (diverting and losing guests), the broken down trailer (filled with our rented chairs and tables), the 90+ heat,…It was a beautiful wedding and a lovely marriage. 🙂

Thanks, Angie! And oh…you had me “yikes-ing” along with you but also smiling at how you recounted those memories. Relax and enjoy the day, no matter what comes. Taking that to heart! Our rehearsal dinner (and wedding) are INDOORS. Whew. But whoa, what stories you have to tell!
Our new daughter is a jewel! She’s planned like crazy, of course, her mom and sister helping her, but she’s also got a relaxed attitude about it all. Which is wonderful.
I remember on my wedding day, before which I had also planned like crazy too, I took to heart a dear mentor’s advice “to get up that day and just let the day unfold, enjoying every minute of it. Whatever isn’t done,” she said, “likely won’t be. Let it go. Whatever doesn’t go right, let it go. Just focus on the JOY and that you’re marrying the man you love.” So I did, and I did. : ) Thanks for sharing today, Angie!

Congratulations, Kurt and Kellie!
I am not able to tell you anything helpful about son’s weddings. My youngest son married in July on zoom. No showers, wedding plans. We had a wedding with guests from all over the world and a mother and father of the groom in t-shirts. ( new ones 😂) and shorts at a coffee shop with the bride and groom in his apartment (dressed up) and a judge in his office doing the wedding.
I am excited to hear about Kurt’s wedding in the days to come.

Congrats! I’ve been praying for a while that with the loss of your dad you would get to add to your family! Looks like you are adding not only a great daughter-in-law but her family as well. Love that!

Tammy when Jonas and Emily got married, for the rehearsal dinner, Gina had asked for and pulled together pictures of our weddings (parents of the bride and groom) plus our parents and grandparents it was really a wonderful idea and one of my favorite memories

What a special, fun time in your life, Tammy. 🙂 As a former MOB (Mother of the Bride) 2 years in a row (whew!) my main advice would be to savor every moment – – the BIG DAY will zip by, so try to treasure everything.
May God bless your son and his lovely fiance, and may their marriage be filled with love.
Hugs, Patti Jo
P.S. Should’ve added that my two times as a MOB were from both daughters’ weddings, not one daughter marrying twice, LOL. 😉

So happy for your whole family! I have been mother-of-the-bride a few years ago when my older daughter married a young man of faith she had met while on study abroad in South America. The wedding was here in the U.S. and was one of the happiest days of my life. My best advice is to try to relax and enjoy the special day with your wonderful family.
