I read a ton of fiction. I inhale novels. By July, I’d read something like sixty according to the list I keep on Goodreads. Now I find myself in a season of inhaling non-fiction, feeding my soul in a different way. Today I thought it would be fun to share some of those with you, while also having a link at the end for a giveaway I’m running of Randy Singer’s latest novel and a copy of Tricia Goyer’s Walk It Out. Be sure to enter both!
One book that I am savoring is Holley Gerth’s just released Fiercehearted. The chapters are bite-sized, perfect for devotions, and I’m actually changing it into a journal. At the end of each chapter, I’m writing prayers about what I want God to do in my life as a result of what I’m reading. The writing is lyrical and honest. I love it!
Another book I’m savoring is Tricia Goyer’s Walk it Out. This book is challenging — in a good way — about not just reading the Bible but actually doing what God says. Tricia and her family have done this literally by living James 1:27. This is a book I want to lead as a study at church so I can discuss the application and make sure I don’t run by it with a checkmark because I’ve read the last page.
Mark Batterson has a new book, Whisper, releasing in a week as well. I have two of his books on audio and am constantly challenged by the content whenever it pops up on my feed. Last night it was about loving God with our whole heart and what it means to live with compassion. Each book I’ve read has challenged me to dream bigger with God. I can’t wait to dive into this one and learn more about how to hear God’s voice. I don’t know about you, but it’s something I need desperately.
There are more books on my spiritual TBR pile, but these are speaking to my soul. What are you reading?

I have read a number of nonfiction books especially in the last two weeks of TBR reading.
I love Dallas Willard’s Hearing God. It answered lots of questions I had. I also love anything by Karol Ladd. I have just read Becoming a Woman of the Word and Becoming a Woman of Confidence. Both encouraging and stretching.

I’m eager to read Tricia Goyer’s Walk It Out, and I’m doing her read-through-the-Bible challenge as well. I would like to get Whisper by Mark Batterson for my husband, who, as an elder in our church, likes to read books about enriching one’s spiritual life. So many of the books I pass on to him are by women, and I think he’d be interested in this pertinent one by a male.

Suzanne, I think Tricia’s book is going to be challenging if we read to apply. And I know what you mean about giving books to our husbands. Mark Batterson also has a book called Play the Man that I got for my husband.
