This is what I’ve been reading, along with the first sentence in each book. I just LOVE reading first sentences, do you?
Me Before You
by JoJo Moyes
First sentence:
“There are 158 footsteps between the bus stop and home, but it can stretch to 180 if you aren’t in a hurry.”
I just finished this Sunday night. This was my first of JoJo’s books, but it will by no means be my last. I loved it and now can’t wait to see the major motion picture that’s coming in June.
Have you seen the trailer yet?
A quirky, smart, heartbreakingly rich love story.

Christy
by Catherine Marshall
on AUDIOBOOK
Listen to sample of Christy
Read by Kellie Martin (who played Christy in the TV series)
First sentence:
“Only my father saw me to the Asheville station that Sunday morning in 1912.”
I’ve read Christy, of course, years and years ago. But I saw the title as I was browsing Audible.com recently and decided to revisit this dear old friend. So glad I did!

As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of the Princess Bride
by Cary Elwes, Joe Layden, Rob Reiner
Listen to a sample of As You Wish
Read by Cary Elwes who played Wesley in the movie (sooo good!)
First sentence:
“The note simply read: Important.”
In a word: delightful! The Princess Bride has long been a family favorite, so listening to these behind-the-scenes stories is fabulous!
So what have you been reading?
Do we have any titles in common?
Blessings from Nashville,
Tammy

I finished Gift-Wrapped Family by Lois Richer & have started Counting on a Cowboy by Debra Clopton. I read Christy years ago & watched the series. I love Catherine Marshall’s books. They helped me define how I see my walk with God back when I was in college. I went from this is what I believe because this is what the church told me I should believe to this is what I believe because this is what the Bible says to me.
Ditto on Catherine’s books, Becky. Thanks so much for sharing!
I owned the book of Christy way back when. I read Room For Hope by Kim Vogel Sawyer and Mermaid Moon by Colleen Coble over the weekend and am now reading The Confessions of X by Suzanne M Wolfe, very different writing style. Have a blessed week.
Gracious, Lucy. You’re one fast reader! Blessings on your week.
Right now I’m listening to an audiobook of Candle in the Darkness, by Lynn Austin, http://www.amazon.com/Candle-Darkness-Refiners-Fire-Book-ebook/dp/B009NVPLGA
and it’s very good! Before that I was listening to, and still am, really, an educational course called from Yao to Mao, http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/from-yao-to-mao-5000-years-of-chinese-history.html
I’m also reading on my Kindle Brian’s Choice, by Vanetta Chapman:

I like to read more than one book at a time, and since I knit a lot, audiobooks are a good way to read without having to hold a book.
Oddly enough, I just read Christy for the first time in January, and my husband and I finished listening to the audiobook of As You Wish about a week ago . . . and I highly enjoyed both!
We’re on the same reading wavelength, Rachael. Love it! Blessings to you, friend.
Tammy,
I listened to the audio book of As You Wish and enjoyed every moment. 🙂 I hadn’t heard about Me Before You, but the trailer has completely charmed me. I’m a fan of romantic British books and movies. Thanks for the recommendation!
Me too on the As You Wish. I think you’ll love Me Before You!
Me Before You looks great! Right now I’m reading Song of Silence by Cynthia Ruchti.
I’ve heard great things about Song of Silence, Emilee. Enjoy!
I recently listened to the audio version of “As You Wish,” and LOVE the fact that almost all of the anecdotes are read by the person who wrote them! It was like hearing my own version of The Princess Bride movie. Charming!
Yes! So well said, Joyell. It was pure pleasure!
I just finished reading Dear Mr. Knightley by Katherine Reay and Keeper of the Stars by Robin Lee Hatcher – loved them both! I’m already planning a girl’s movie time to see Me before You when it comes out.
LOVE girl’s night out to see movies. How fun! And great on that reading, Linda!
My book club just read Where’d You Go Burnadette. It was a fun read.
I’ll have to check that out, Pat! Thanks!
I just finished reading Me Before You based on your recommendation of it…I have to admit that I loved and hated it at the same time. The story was amazing but I was honestly heartbroken with the ending. This is one of two books that I’ve actually really cried during. Yet, it was so good that I have to read the sequel now. 😄
