My favorite Christmas vacations are the ones where I don’t have to travel . . . much. Days spent in pajamas. Playing board games with the family. Piecing together a puzzle. Watching movies and TV shows that have piled up on the TiVo because we don’t have time to watch them during our normal routine. Cross-stitching. Reading Christmas novellas. Love it!
This Christmas certainly qualifies. My husband’s family usually joins us at our house, but this year, work schedules prevented a large gathering. However, his parents live right next door, so they came over for dinner and the reading of the Christmas story on December 24th and then gift opening on the 25th. Here they are with my kids on the right. Wayne and Hilda will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next year in December. Fabulous!
Christmas morning always starts with stockings, then moves to breakfast making, followed by portable breakfast eating while we open the rest of the presents.
Christmas day, the temperatures were in the 60s, but three days later, our belated White Christmas arrived, just in time for us to drive down to Austin to visit my mom.
We spent a day and a half visiting with family and having a great time, then the trip culminated in the most anticipated moment of the vacation . . . Star Wars!!!
We don’t have an IMAX theater in Abilene, so we postponed seeing the newest installment of the Star Wars saga until our trip to Austin. All of my family members are huge Star Wars nuts. Seen all the movies. Read all the books. And of course, Mrs. Santa made sure there was plenty of Star Wars paraphernalia under the tree. Since I was the only one without appropriate attire, I was nominated to hide behind the camera and take this epic pic.
Now the kids are back in school and the hubby and I are back at work, missing those sleeping-in mornings and lazy days. But we created some wonderful memories that will sustain us until next year.

We had a Star Wars Christmas here, too, from the toddler with his BB-8 toy and Yoda Snack-eez to my older son and husband and all the other Star Wars paraphernalia that made its way into the house. And, the consensus was that the IMAX 3-D was the best viewing – since my husband has seen it in three formats already. (The Force is strong in this household.)

Ha! The Force is indeed strong in your family. 🙂 So fun.

We received an early, long-awaited Christmas present on December 17 when our very first grandchild, Lyla Rose was born!

I have been looking for the game Bang for a long time! Actually forgot after searching for it years ago…..my SIL and my nieces and nephew own the game. I am so excited that it is back and I can order it from Amazon, (although I would have loved to have gotten it local) 😉 …it is that instant gratification thing.

I hope you get a copy, Kim. I had never heard of it before, but we had such a fun time playing it. Even got the grandparents in on the action. 🙂 And since I write westerny stories, I love the Old West feel to it.
