At this time of year, thoughts turn to the approaching holidays and the upcoming feasts at Thanksgiving and Christmas. But my thoughts are filled with writing, rewriting, editing, and launching a new book.
So, while it may not be as delicious as turkey, stuffing, cranberries, and pie, here’s what’s in store for me.
What’s On My Plate For The Coming Weeks
December 3: Release Date for The Bridge to Belle Island, a new stand-alone mystery. If you live near the Roseville MN B & N, please join us for the launch party at 7 pm. It’s always a fabulous night to celebrate with reader-friends. If it’s too far for you, I hope you will join us “in spirit” with a copy of the new book.
December 9: Rewrites for my first-ever Christmas novella are due to my editors. The good news is that they really enjoyed the rough draft, so the rewrites shouldn’t be too difficult, thankfully. My editor wrote: “One of the most enjoyable novellas I’ve read in a long while, and I know Julie’s fans will be over-the-moon in their delight.” I sure hope so! Look for An Ivy Hill Christmas to release next autumn. In the meantime, here’s a peek at the festive cover.
December 15, or before: Very soon it will be time to give a draft of my next full-length novel to my first readers, so I can get feedback, make revisions, and be ready to turn it in to my editors mid-January. I have written a rouuuuugh draft, but still have a lot of editing ahead of me. It’s an adventurous romance set on the windswept Cornwall coast made popular by Daphne Du Maurier’s novels and PBS Masterpiece’s Poldark series. We visited Cornwall on our group tour this summer and I am enjoying “spending more time there” while writing this new novel called A Castaway in Cornwall. Can’t wait to have a cover to show you, but first to finish the book. Prayer appreciated!
In the meantime, what’s on your plate for the coming weeks? I hope it overflows with God’s blessings and every good thing.

My plate looks a lot like yours. Launching a new book, writing and editing my next one in time for my January 30 deadline. I feel your stress! If only we could move Christmas to a more convenient time. Happy writing!

The life of an author is obviously extremely busy–not just with the writing but also with their own families. Thank you for devoting so much time to creating the wonderful books that you write. I’m looking forward to reading your new books.

First off, I love the cover of An Ivy Hill Christmas and can’t wait until it is released!! Next up is preparations for the upcoming holiday season (both Thanksgiving and Christmas). My oldest daughter’s practice (she is a chiropractor is a rural community) will be participating in a Girl’s Night Out special shopping night for women in the surrounding communities so we will be decorating her office and baking for that (Nov. 25th). Then cooking and baking for Thanksgiving, which we always celebrate at my parent’s home. Then Black Friday shopping, then a few weeks of respite while awaiting Christmas. I am working on a throw quilt for my youngest daughter and am getting ready to start a throw quilt for my niece for Christmas which both have to be done and at the lady who longarm quilts them for me by Dec. 14th when she quits for the holiday season. Listening to holiday music, spending time with my family and enjoying the true reason for the holidays (my relationship with Jesus) is what I enjoy most about this time of year.

My schedule is much like yours, too, Julie. I have a book launch this weekend, copy edits coming my way the week after, all while trying to plot the next book that is being stubbornly nebulous. Hope you find some time to relax and enjoy the holidays in the midst of all the writing work.
Oh, and your Christmas in Ivy Green novella cover, is so inviting and festive. And you have the HERO featured. Nice! Is this your first hero cover? Love it!

Packing up today to head to deer hunting camp! I’ve been cooking and baking for days! Thanksgiving will be at my house, as always, with family. Then on to Christmas and again celebrations will be here. I love to cook and bake, so am looking forward to all the busy-ness that the season brings!

It sounds like you’ve been VERY busy writing for us Julie! Thank you!! My plate is full of writing end of first quarter reports for school. Not as fun as your writing, but deadline driven too. Better get back to the computer!

Hm, Roseville is 7 hrs away for me…guess I’ll have to stay home 😉 I am VERY much looking forward to your next full-length novel coming out, and I just recently re-read the Ivy Hill series, so I’m excited about that novella, too! I have prayed for you about your next book, and am hoping that truths about Christ shine through your words! Enjoy your Christmas, Julie!

Thanks for sharing a lovely cover of your Christmas novella! 🙂 It’ll be delightful to return to Ivy Hill.
This year, December 1st is the start of the Advent season. It’s a time to focus on the real meaning for the Christmas season as we wait for the Lord’s coming.
For those traveling over Thanksgiving week, safe and happy travels whenever you go!
