What’s on Your TBR Pile?

September 9, 2019 By Deborah Raney

Now that we’re pretty well settled into our house in Missouri and I’m back on a regular writing schedule, I’ve had a lot more time to read. Here are some of the books I’ve enjoyed recently, and others that are up next on my (tall!) TBR pile. (That’s “to-be-read” pile in case you’re not familiar with the acronym.)

I spent the most enjoyable Sunday afternoon after church yesterday reading Katherine Reay’s newest novel. I’m about 150 pages in and in that lovely “living in the story” mode. You’ve got to love a book that’s about books and set in a charming bookshop!
A few days ago, I finished Rachel Hauck’s The Memory House. It was another great story from an author I really enjoy. I started this book while we were moving and it was so frustrating to not have time to read as long as I wanted. So it was a treat to finally just sit down and read all the way to the end.
Lori Roeleveld has become one of my favorite bloggers and authors of non-fiction, and her newest book is such a timely one for the culture we live in! Lori has the most winsome way of sharing her faith and engaging the culture. I want to be more like her… No, what I mean is, she makes me want to be more like Jesus.
One of the best perks of being an author is getting a sneak peek at other writers’ books before they release. I read a few pages of the ARC (advanced reader copy) for Robin Pearson’s debut novel and it has been tempting me ever since. Isn’t that the prettiest cover?
I’m excited to finally be able to say that Chasing Dreams releases NEXT month! You can pre-order the print version by clicking HERE.

I’d love to hear what YOU are reading right now. Please share in the comments below.

DEBORAH RANEY's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title and launched Deb’s writing career. Forty books later, she's still creating stories that touch hearts and lives. Her novels have won RWA's RITA Award, the ACFW Carol Award, the National Readers Choice Award, and the HOLT Medallion. She is also a three-time Christy Award finalist. She is a recent transplant to Missouri, having moved with her husband, Ken Raney, from their native Kansas to be closer to kids and grandkids. They love road trips, e-biking, Friday garage sale dates, and breakfast on the screened porch overlooking their wooded backyard.

Thanks for the recommendations, Deb. I recently enjoyed Sharon Garlough Brown’s “Shades of Light”

I won Rachel’s book. Now I need to carve out some time to read it. I just finished The Spice King by Elizabeth Camden. So very interesting about the food industry in 1900 and the beginning of regulation and the Goodhousekeeping Seal of approval. Great romance, too.

I didn’t realize the Goodhousekeeping Seal of Approval went back that far!

Thanks for the recommendations, but most especially, thanks for a look at your decorating skills as you displayed them – all of my favorite colors! So glad you’re settled.

My TBR pile includes Tammy’s With This Pledge, Lynn’s Waves of Mercy, Jody’s Orphan Train series and her new fairy tale books: Always and Evermore. So many great ones to read, but not enough time.

I loved both The Printed Letter Bookshop and The Memory House (and everything else Katherine Reay and Rachel Hauck have written. I recently finished the Montana Marshall series by Susan May Warren. They were all excellent, as expected. My upcoming books include Far Side of the Sea by Kate Breslin, The Spice King by Elizabeth Camden, and Prayer by Richard J. Foster. I’m looking forward the reading the Chandler Sisters series. I will probably wait until the series is complete though. Next fall???? 🙂

I finished reading the book I won from you – my free e-book, A Vow to Cherish! My husband died of complications of pneumonia, as well as with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, in December 2017! Your book was so encouraging; I could relate in so many areas. Thanks so much for writing that powerful book. I then re-read Because of the Rain. Again, another powerful book and so relevant to current issues. I was enthralled with your story. Your books are so thought provoking and encouraging! Thanks!

I’ve enjoyed all of Katherine Reay’s books, and her newest is on my TBR list. I just finished a series by Leisha Kelly that I just loved. I was so sad to learn she and her son died in a car accident a few years back.

I also just finished a couple of good ones called There’s a Reason they Call It GRANDparenting by Michele Howe and Kill Order by Adam Blumer. I’m about to finish a long trek through Anna Karenina via audiobook. I’m about halfway through Loving People: How to Love and Be Loved by John Townsend and just started A Promise in Pieces by Emily T. Wierenga.

I’ve started reading the novel “The Devil’s Slave” by Tracy Borman. It’s the 2nd installment in the author’s “Frances Gorges” trilogy, set during the reign of King Jame I.
My next novel to read is “Diamond in the Rough” by Jen Turano. It’s her 2nd novel in the “American Heiresses” series.

Thank you for sharing your TBR list. I just finished Cara Putman’s Delayed Justice and Robin Lee Hatcher’s Cross My Heart. I want to read Rachel’s The Memory House and Tamara’s Belmont Mansion series.

For my 8th grade reading class I am reading a novel called Shooting Kabul and just finished one I’m going to be teaching later called Wundersmith: The Trials of Morrigan Crow.

I just finished Brunch at the Bittersweet Cafe by Carla Laureano. Love her books! I work at a library so my TBR pile is about 40% of the library’s collection! 😉 So hard to see such interesting books come in – I’d like to read so many of them.
