Today I’m celebrating the release of a new book! While officially the book doesn’t hit shelves until next Tuesday (March 7), I decided today was close enough to start partying and have a giveaway!
FOR LOVE & HONOR is the third and final book in my Young Adult series set during medieval times and centering around knights, castles, and daring damsels. For those who haven’t yet read An Uncertain Choice or A Daring Sacrifice, don’t worry. All of the books can be read as standalones.
While this YA medieval series has been a step away from my usual historical romances, I have to admit that the series has been SUPER fun to write.

First, I love writing in the medieval time period, a time overflowing with danger, wars, plagues, strange customs, harsh living conditions, and incredible differences between the have’s and the have-not’s. All of that is such excellent fodder for developing page-turning stories. And so usually as I’m writing these stories, I have no trouble putting my characters into life-threatening danger, which is always fun (*evil cackle*).
Second, I’ve had a blast writing my YA series because I love being able to speak truths into the hearts of young people. I have 4 teenagers and one tween, so I’m surrounded by teen angst every day! As a result of dealing with lots of teen issues with my children and their friends, it’s my goal to share hope and encouragement that if my characters can persevere and handle the growing-up issues with integrity and strength, then my readers can too.
Finally, I’ve enjoyed writing my YA series because I believe teens need clean romance alternatives. A lot of teens are reading romances (that’s when I started reading them). I’ve loved being able to provide stories with chivalry and honor and courage and lots of other themes that will hopefully give young ladies encouragement and inspiration as they move forward into building healthy relationships of their own.
Lest adult readers worry that FOR LOVE & HONOR might be too juvenile for them, then let me put your fear to rest. Early reviews from my adult readers are showing that they, too, are enjoying the new book. Here are just a few early reviews from adult readers:
“This is marketed as YA, but it’s wonderfully interesting for all ages, in my opinion.”
“Even though it is written with the younger set in mind, I, being of the older set, enjoyed it immensely.”
“For Love and Honor is everything that fans of Jody Hedlund have come to appreciate and enjoy; regaling her readers across the generations with the timeless reminder that God-given uniqueness is a priceless gift, bestowed out of everlasting love.”
Join in celebrating the release of FOR LOVE & HONOR by entering the Rafflecopter form below for a chance to WIN a signed copy of the book! And then make sure to stop by my Facebook Page next week starting Tuesday March 7 (Release Day!) for more chances to win the book!

Your covers for this series are so gorgeous, Jody. This one immediately sets the my fairy tale imagination on fire. Beautiful!
I haven’t read YA for many years, but I’ve always loved that point of view! Great post, Jody. I hope others can comment! They appear to be broken right now. 🙁
“Wonder” is one of my favorite YA books. A great read for anyone. ❤
I’ve read and reviewed all three of your medieval YA books and loved them. And I’m 62! So age is not a factor.
I want the book!
The last ya book I read was Unblemished by Sara Ellis. Your book looks awesome. Thanks for the giveaway!
Gorgeous cover!
Your books are so inspirational!!! I can’t wait to see what this book has in-store!
The last YA novel I read was The Silent Songbird by Melanie Dickerson. It’s apart of her Hagenheim series. I absolutely loved it. I loved the fact that it was set in 1300s England and how the character was loosely based off Ariel in The Little Mermaid. The whole series is amazing.
The last YA book I read and loved was Beyond the Rising Tide by Sarah Beard. I’ve noticed that so many YA books are written in first person perspective and it’s fun to really get into the head of the characters that way. Thank you for writing clean YA fiction!
I’ve been loving Melanie Dickerson’s books! I’m also in the middle of listening to Jenny B Jones’ “In Between” – I like that it’s giving me deeper perspective on older foster children and their unique needs.
I read An Uncertain Choice and loved it. Plan to read Daring Sacrifice soon and hope to win For Love & Honor. I always read your books, Jody, and love them.
I have not read any YA recently but I buy it for my church library. Interesting, clean Christian YA fiction is hard to come by. I wish more authors would take on the daunting task to write YA that both speaks to young adults and challenges them to grow in their faith.
I’ve never read a YA book yet, though I do have just about every YA book Melanie Dickerson has out! My 27 year old niece recommended her to me a while back. I’m sure she would enjoy your books too Jody, I’ll need to return the favor and recommend you to her! 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway chance. I’ve read many of your “adult” books being part of your team, so I’m certain I will enjoy your YA novels just as much!
I am a retired teacher, and I have spent a lot of time reading YA fiction. Some of my favorites are “Where the Red Fern Grows,” “The Giver,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Little Women,” “Bridge to Terabithia,” “Call of the Wild,” “Hatchet,” and “Danny, the Champion of the World,” just to name a few. I actually enjoy YA fiction more than adult fiction sometimes. I still do some tutoring, so I continue to read YA fiction both in my work and for pleasure. I am interested in reading your releases and will check them out. I have enjoyed your adult fiction, so I expect to feel the same about your YA fiction.
I only read YA and historical fiction, so it’s really cool to see a YA medieval book from you! Right now I’m reading Lifeblood, second in a series called Everlife, and I’m enjoying the many christian themes woven subtly through the story! ((Also pinned and tweeted))
I haven’t read any YA books lately but the ones I have read were awesome even for a 75yr old reader.
Thanks for writing clean ya fiction. Like Linda above, I am a retired teacher and loved reading to my fifth grade students. Some of my favorites are Number the Stars (so powerful), A Family Apart (first in a series about the orphan train), Island of the Blue Dolphins, and Sign of the Beaver. So often my students would show me a book from the library that had bad language in it. It was hard for them to understand that an adult would write a book for children like that. Several of my students wanted to write the author and complain.
All of the books I mentioned can be enjoyed by adults also. My nine year old granddaughter is an avid reader. I will pass your books her way when the time comes, but until then I will enjoy them. This book sounds great. I love the medieval time period. Thanks for the giveaway!
The most recent YA that I really enjoyed was “Chivalrous (Valiant Hearts Book #2)” by Dina L. Sleiman. I’m a HUGE Tamara Leigh fan, so this being in a medieval setting is right up my alley.
Boy, this sounds like such a great a book! The cover looks so interesting!
I read a lot of young adult books. The most recent was My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand and I listened to the audio version. It was different and I really enjoyed it.
I’m sorry but everything written by Jody Hedlund, I just know I’m going to LOVE. In terms of YA- I always read YA. My thoughts are a good story is a good story, whether it’s a picture book or YA etc. I’d say the last YA book I read was “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio. While not a Christian book, it is a wonderful story of a young man who has to face the world with an extreme facial abnormality and how he gets through- it’s so good with an emphasis on living kindly.
I can’t remember reading any lately that were marketed as YA fiction, but I think a good book can transcend age boundaries. Your book looks and sounds fascinating, Jody!
I like to read YA books. I ahem read the first 2 in this series and really enjoyed them.
It’s been a few months since I’ve read a YA book, but I really enjoyed Into the Fire by Kim Vandel. I’m love the finding clean books that I can share with my tween daughters. This series sounds like it would be good for that. Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on the new release!
I’m so excited to read this! I’m going to try and get this series to be a part of a book club for teen girls at my church!
I love YA literature! I just finished re-reading Sell Out by Tammy L. Gray. Always great. Jenny B. Jones is another favorite clean YA author I adore. I also love your YA books, Jody!
The last YA books I read was Mary Pearson’s “The Remnant Chronicles.” They are not Christian, and there is some language, but overall it was a very good series. I do enjoy a good YA series and have read several noteworthy ones. (Kiera Cass’s books are amazing!) I have yet to read your YA books, but I look forward to the experience. I have loved every single one of your books that I have read so far.
I haven’t read any YA fiction lately, but I do enjoy reading YA books. The last series I read was The Tradd Street series by Karen White. I liked it because it taked place in Charleston SC, which is one of my favorite cities.
I haven’t read any YA lately. My most recent read was Naomi Tawlings’s first novel, Sanctuary for a Lady. It was fascinating to read abut what it was like during the French Revolution! It made me wonder how my own ancestors fared there through that terrifying time.
I have enjoyed many YA books in recent months. I truly enjoy the genre. I read “The Vow”, “An Uncertain Choice” and “A Daring Sacrifice” when they first were published. Recently, I listened to the audio book version of the last two. I love listening to the audio recordings of books I have enjoyed reading. Can’t wait to see what happens with Sir Bennet.
A lot of Melanie Dickerson’s fairy tale retellings are considered YA. I’ve read all of them and absolutely love them. I don’t read YA as a general rule since that certainly isn’t my age category, but if an author whose other works I enjoy writes them, I’ll check them out if I can. I think this series of Jody’s looks quite interesting.
I am reading Always Watching by Lynette Eason and The Chosen by Rachel Dekker
You must read the other two by Rachelle also. I have and they are so good!
The last I’ve read is Storm Siren by Mary Weber. There were parts I really enjoyed, and there were parts that I can’t wait to see how they are developed in the rest of the series!
I’ll have to find these to read. Sounds interesting. I love reading YA and juvenile books.
I just finished reading Solstice and Lake Town by Jane Redd. Wonderful, exciting dystopian YA fiction.
I’ve started reading a few YAs this past year. The most recent was Unfolding.
About 20% of all that I read is YA fiction. The last YA book I read was Truest by Jackie Lea Sommers. It was this author’s first novel and I LOVED it. Although not classified as Christian fiction, the author is a Christian and it was apparent by the content.
I don’t read much YA fiction, but the last one I read was the Hunger Games. And that was fantastic.
Yay, I can comment today! I am so looking forward to this release; I too enjoy reading both YA and your “adult” novels. 🙂
I’ve read all of your YA books and I love them. I also read Melanie Dickerson’s YA medieval books. I love them too! And I am 44 years old, but young at heart!
I started reading your YA books not even knowing that they were marketed for YA. I love them!
I haven’t read much YA fiction, but I know Jody is an excellent writer!
Right now I am reading To Whisper her Name by Tamera Alexander.
This week I read Mary Weber’s The Storm Siren. It was fascinating.
Jody, your cover is stunning!
I haven’t read much YA but I love anything Jody writes, especially loved the one about Luther ( I am a Lutheran) so well researched! Finished a few by Kristi Ann Hunter that were fun.
I recently read Karen Witemeyer’s No Other Will Do, and absolutely loved it! I always enjoy her books so much! I’ve also read Out Of The Storm, and I loved it. Couldn’t put it down! Thank you so much for this opportunity to win. The cover is gorgeous!
I’ve recently read Carve the Mark, Take the Key and Lock Her Up, and Wires & Nerve, all cool YA books.
This is one of my favorite YA series!!
Currently re-reading Cress by Marissa Meyer. Love reading and writing YA! It is a time when life is so full of possibilities and shaping yourself into who you want to be in the future. 🙂
I read a novella recently called Rose of Prophecy and I LOVED it!! 🙂 It was a fairy-tale retelling.
I’ve not read any YA books lately, but the last book I read was “Above the Bridge” by Deborah Garner, and I enjoyed it very much.
I recently started reading youth fiction again and it is so fun. Intermission by Serena Chase is a must read. She provides a wonderful example for young girls.
I love reading YA fiction. I have several favorites. Those that come to mind are the Gallagher Girls series and Serafina and the Black Cloak.
I haven’t had the opportunity to read any of your YA books, but I’d love to.

I loved The Golden Braid. That is the only YA I’ve read.
I never was a reader when I was young. I wish i had because my childhood wasn’t the best and maybe thru these stories, i would have felt like I had parents, like I could tell someone my thoughts and fears, and learn about life and God. I would love to read your YA books, especially this one, to still learn so much that my heart aches for.
The last YA fiction I read was actually A Daring Sacrifice from Jody Hedlund, believe it or not. Very good book, truly. Loved the Robin Hood feel, and felt myself feeling for the characters and their struggles. I remember thinking it felt like they were falling for each other a bit too fast, but then, I’ve never had any sort of romantic relationship of my own, so I might not be the best judge of that. Think I’ll be reading it again here shortly, along with An Uncertain Choice, in preparation for the release of For Love and Honor. =)
The last YA book that I read was The Silent Songbird by Melanie Dickerson. I loved it. I have really enjoyed your books as well! Beautiful covers by the way!
I shared on FB and accidentally put it in the Pinterest entry form today! 😂
