Last week, I had the absolute JOY of meeting with the WOW (Women of the Word) Book Club from Enon Baptist in Morris, Alabama on location at Carnton in Franklin, which is the setting of all my Carnton novels.
Barbara Wiginton, their fearless and fabulous leader, reached out and asked if I could meet them for a brief visit after they toured Carnton, and I’m thrilled that our schedules aligned!
What a lovely bunch of gals, and how fun they are. Lots of laughter, for sure.
We visited the cemetery, and I grabbed a pic of them with Carnton in the far left distance.
And I grabbed another pic as they were leaving…
I love being in a book club and also meeting with book clubs at the various Southern plantations when schedules mesh. In fact, the group also visited Belle Meade the very next day…
I SO appreciate them helping to keep real history alive, which is what book clubs do when they visit these old Southern homes.
And speaking of book clubs, if you happened to miss Angie’s great post about book clubs yesterday, please check it out. So much of what she shared rang true for me in my experiences, too.
Have you ever been part of a book club that went the extra mile (or lots of miles!) to visit the place you’d read about it? If yes, please share the book and location with us in a comment below!
Lastly, from time to time, I’ll share an especially good sermon and this Sunday’s was that. We’re starting a series entitled DIGITAL DETOX and Pastor Shannon Scott delivered a powerful and convicting lesson.
Much love from my corner of Nashville,
Tammy

I’m looking forward to the TBD. My favorite Book location visit is still Shrewsbury from the Brother Cadfael books. I own every book and at the old monastery they have a fabulous interactive program in the herb garden, scriptorium and cloister.

Susan, believe it or not, I’ve never heard of those books. But just downloaded a sample of the first one! THANK YOU for that recommendation, and for this: “I’m looking forward to the TBD.” 🙂

I’ve read a number of the Brother Cadfael books. How wonderful that you were able to visit Shrewsbury!

I’ve enjoyed visiting Savannah and St Simon’s Island where many Eugenia Price novels take place.

That was on my bucket list for YEARS, Harriet! I was so thrilled to get to finally go there last year! And yes, it was all Eugenia Price’s fault! 🙂

Oh yes, so agree, Harriet! I’d love to revisit St. Simon’s Island. It’s been years. Love Savannah. Thanks for sharing today!

I love my book club and was so thrilled you were able to join us via Zoom last summer and will again in December! We haven’t had the pleasure of visiting the settings of any of our books yet but would love to do that.

And I would love to meet you all at either Carnton, Belmont, or Belle Meade, too, Kelly. I never tire of visiting those places. Looking forward to our group chat later this year. Thanks for sharing!

What a fun book club meeting! So cool that you got to do that, Tammy!

I always love meeting people out there and walking through history. Hugs to you and blessings in all your travels!

What a great time it looks like that book club had meeting you. So happy to hear the third Carnton book is scheduled.
It is always a joy to me to visit places I’ve read about in books. Charleston has always been a favorite place for me to visit, and I just finished the last book in Karen White’s Tradd Street series set there. I have also been to all of the Colonial sites in Roseanna White’s Culper Ring series. Looking forward to reading Becky Wade’s recent release set in Maine, since the area she highlights was the last favorite vacation spot my husband and I enjoyed, and I have so many wonderful memories of our trips to the Maine coast.
Looking forward to more pictures of baby Leo, who must be growing so fast!
