Writing Anywhere: One Perk of Being an Author
One of the (many) perks of being a writer is that you can work from anywhere. For the last few days, that means writing from an old-fashioned “mom and pop” motel on the north shore of Lake Superior, not far from Grand Marais, Minnesota.
While my husband poked around shops, read, fed chipmunks, or napped, I was able to spend some quality time writing with a beautiful view.
I love to be near water. I don’t need a boat, or to swim. Just to look at it—its ripples, and the diamonds of sunlight sparkling on its surface, and—my favorite—waves hitting against rocks—is a delight to me. Perhaps to you, too?
I did take breaks to hike in the woods and along the shore (another favorite) as well as to enjoy some good meals with my hubby.
We both enjoyed a few days away and: BONUS, I made some much-needed progress on my next novel.

I love being able to work from anywhere! It allows me to go with my husband when he travels for work, so I get some time to write uninterrupted by the minutia of normal life at home.

What a peaceful, beautiful respite. I’m so glad you are making progress on your book! I don’t enjoy nature enough. I’ve always been an indoor person, but as I age I am finding I like to be outdoors more. I still need comfort, but listening to crickets and cicadas in a sunny spot is so relaxing.
Like you, I love having a view of water while writing! And there’s something extra special about getting away from home now and then to spend concentrated time on a book. Glad you had that getaway!

One of my favorite sayings is “Have laptop, will travel!” But as a homeschooling mama of many, that usually means writing while waiting in the car or sitting on the sidelines of soccer games. Fun, but not nearly as scenic!
