Writing Books We Cannot Read

October 13, 2025 By Deborah Raney

My dear friend author Elizabeth Musser and I have known each other for twenty years, ever since we roomed together at a conference and became fast friends. She invited me to be part of a sweet prayer group of fellow authors almost ten years ago, and the six of us still meet by Zoom once a month to pray for each other and our families as we write for the Lord. It can be a challenge since we live all over the world—Elizabeth in France, Sharon in Scotland, and the rest of us in different time zones in the U.S. But what a blessing it continues to be!

Recently, Elizabeth was in the Netherlands for a book tour, and she sent our little group this photo of her holding some of our books—in Dutch! Nearly all of our books have been translated into Dutch and other languages. It is a unique and wonderful experience to see a book you wrote, yet you can no longer read it because it’s been translated into a foreign language.

Oh, but what a privilege to know that our work is crossing oceans and hopefully carrying God’s Word and truths to people we will likely never meet.

Elizabeth has a new book out that is waiting on my nightstand, and I can’t wait to read it! If you’d like to get a copy, click on the image below:

Elizabeth and her husband Paul in the Netherlands. They served as missionaries to France for many years and now split their time between the U.S. and France.

Have you read any of Elizabeth’s award-winning books yet? You won’t be disappointed!

DEBORAH RANEY's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title and launched Deb’s writing career. Forty books later, she's still creating stories that touch hearts and lives. Her novels have won RWA's RITA Award, the ACFW Carol Award, the National Readers Choice Award, and the HOLT Medallion. She is also a four-time Christy Award finalist. Deb is on faculty for several national writers’ conferences and served on the executive board of the 2,500-member American Christian Fiction Writers organization for 18 years before retiring in 2022. She is a recent transplant to Missouri, having moved with her husband, Ken Raney, from their native Kansas to be closer to kids and grandkids. They love road trips, e-biking, Friday garage sale dates, and breakfast on the screened porch overlooking their wooded backyard.

I love that y’all do that, Deb! And it’s so fun to have your books translated into another language. Elizabeth Musser is such a lovely soul. Can’t wait to read From the Valley We Rise! It’s on my list!

Thanks, D’Ann. It has really been a blessing to pray with these gals.

From The Valley we rise was awsome. I enjoyed this book so much while being on holidays in Greece.
