Have you heard about You Can Rest by Katy Boatman? If you have a preteen girl, they need this book—and keep reading because I’m giving away a copy TODAY!
Preteen girls have lots to be anxious about these days, and Katy Boatman, who has worked with them for 15 years, understands that.
With an authentic voice and mentor mindset, Katy wrote You Can Rest to help young readers calm their hearts and minds by focusing on the one who brings true rest: Jesus.
Each day is structured with a Bible verse to open, a devotion to ponder, and a prayer to close. With journaling prompts throughout the book, this 100-day devotional helps readers reflect on their everyday anxieties from a biblical perspective, leading to hope in Christ. Topics include:
- Illnesses
- Isolation
- Friendships
- Schoolwork
- Appearance
- The news
- The future
- Being misunderstood
- Even falling asleep at night!
Take a peek at the introduction. Katy writes in such a real, personal way.
Packed with grace and truth and sprinkled with humor and delight, You Can Rest shows preteen girls that our worries and fears do not have the final say. Jesus does.

One of my favorite books in the Bible is Deuteronomy. And a favorite verse that helps me “rest” in Jesus is…
The eternal God is your refuge,
and underneath are the everlasting arms.
(Deuteronomy 33:27)
What about you? How do you rest in Jesus?
Happy Tuesday!

One of the ways I rest in Jesus is by contemplative worship music, which calms and inspires me. Another way is I meditate on Scripture and/or pray.

This book would be perfect for my pre-teen granddaughter. She often has tummy issues, and I wonder if it is connected to anxiety or stress. I rest through prayer and reading. I’m reading through Psalms right now, and many of those verses help me remember who God and Jesus are.

I love the idea of this book. I have an 11 year old granddaughter who
would love to have this as she navigates Junior High.
Carrie A Turansky says
I find rest and refreshment by spending time outdoors–taking a walk or working in my garden. Sometimes, just walking around my yard to look for what is blooming is enough to help calm my heart and mind. Being outdoors often leads to prayer too, which is the very best way to rest.

Sounds like a great book, Tammy. Thanks for sharing! It’d be great if she did an adult version one day.

What a wonderful book! Thank you for sharing! I find rest in reading and being in the nature.

This sounds so beneficial for our preteens! I am raising my granddaughter and she faces so much that prior generations have not. Much intercession is needed for this generation.

Sometimes I find it difficult to rest. If we are honest, I think we all struggle with finding peace at some point in our lives. But during those times, the Lord brings a message to my heart, reminding me that HE is ever present and is the keeper of my soul. I have an 11 year old niece, third born who struggles with being noticed. I think she would benefit from this book.
Judy Schexnayder says
I would love this for my granddaughter.
Lori Cole says
I find rest in talking to God. My favorite place to pray is outdoors where I’m not distracted by things around the house that need my attention. I like to pray out loud, just like carrying on a conversation with God. It helps me focus. I have some severe health issues that make it very hard to sleep at night, so I also like to go to sleep listening to soothing songs.
My daughter is grown, but I have a special friend’s-daughter who is almost 13. She is also “my girl” & this book would be perfect for her. 🙂

I volunteer in the church library.
Madison reminds me of myself at that age.
If I win, the book will be given to her.
Rachel Anderson says
This book sounds like it would be a very good one for my daughter. But, in all honesty, it would also be good for me, too. I think I might get it so we can read it together and remind each other to not listen to Satan’s lies an that God wants us to trust in Him.
Sally Davison says
My life verse is Isaiah 26:3 which started when I had skin cancer and needed surgery. During the actual surgery in the doctor’s office I was awake and repeated this verse and I felt peace.
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
