Word of Mouth: One of the Most Powerful Tools in Helping a Book Succeed

April 21, 2017 By Jody Hedlund

Think for a few minutes about the kinds of things that make you want to pick up a book and read it. Most of the time we read a book because it's by an author we already know and love. Sometimes a cover might attract us to take a closer look, particularly if we're browsing in a brick-and-mortar store. But I'm guessing the large majority of us discover books based on word of mouth. The … [Read more...]

Unexpected Discoveries and a Huge Romance Giveaway

April 20, 2017 By Karen Witemeyer

April has been a busy month for me as far as travel goes. In fact, today I'll be in airports and cars most of the day traveling to a writers' retreat, so please forgive me if I am delayed responding to comments. I thought I'd share some of my experiences from the quaint town of Mason, TX. I was invited to come speak at a library event back on April 8, and I had a lovely time. Got to see some … [Read more...]

My Adventures in Fairhope, Alabama

April 19, 2017 By Lenora Worth

Utopia. That word came to mind as my husband and I entered the quaint town of Fairhope, Alabama, which sits on the bluffs overlooking Mobile Bay. Of course, it's spring in the South and the weather was perfect for cruising in our little Mini-Cooper with the top down. But oh, the colorful flowers and the huge old oaks and magnolias. It looked as if spring had fallen out of the sky and landed in … [Read more...]

Accountability is a great thing

April 18, 2017 By Tamera Alexander

"It is finished." Those words of Jesus when he was dying on the cross resonated within me last week, and still do. From before time began, he knew what his mission would be. He knew what it would cost. And I can only begin to imagine what he felt in that moment to know that he’d fully glorified the Father, that he’d sealed our redemption, that he’d done exactly what he’d come to do. What … [Read more...]

Read To Me!

April 17, 2017 By Lynn Austin

One of the things I love about being a grandmother is reading books to my granddaughter. Lyla is sixteen months old and already has her favorites. One of them, “Hand, Hand, Fingers Thumbs” by Al Perkins and Eric Gurney, used to be one of her mother’s favorites, too. I never liked this book when my daughter was young because it didn’t have a plot. My daughter now understands why I got tired of … [Read more...]

What’s it like to write collaboratively?

April 13, 2017 By Cara Putman

Tricia Goyer and I are co-authors in a new Guidepost cozy mystery series. We're both head down writing our first book in the series, and it's a fun time of exploration. When you write on a Guidepost series, it's a little different from writing a book for yourself. I thought today I'd take you behind the scenes and show you how these books come to life. [Tweet "Curious about writing … [Read more...]

Powerful Movie, Nostalgic Props

April 11, 2017 By Julie Klassen

I saw the new movie The Case for Christ on Sunday with my husband and teenage son. It was excellent and I recommend it. The writing was solid and realistic—kudos to Brian Bird. The acting was impressive, especially from the leads. And the production values and especially the cinematography exceeded my expectations. My son acknowledged that it was better than the other Christian movies we've … [Read more...]
