Have you ever said something like, "I don't have a creative bone in my body"? Or maybe you've heard someone else say it. Well, I'm here to tell you that statement is simply not the truth. For anybody. How do I know this? Easy. We were made in the image of our Creator. God is a creator. The Creator. And He made us in His image. That means we were meant to be creators as well. Sure, we create on … [Read more...]
Celebration Highlights
For those of you who weren't able to join me last week for the release party for my 10th novel, The Painter’s Daughter, I thought I’d share a few highlights here. I began by showing a photo from my very first book signing back in 2007. My older son is in red and the little guy bent sideways is my youngest. This year my older son had a basketball game and couldn’t attend the signing, but my … [Read more...]
The Race to the Finish
Life has its calm seasons and busy seasons, times when I can work at my leisure and actually enjoy what I do, and times when I’m forced to labor long into the night, fretting and worrying and racing to finish on time. Right now I’m in one of those crunch times. That’s because I’m within a few pages of finishing my newest novel and typing “The End.” By now I know my characters and my plot very … [Read more...]

Divine Appointments
Over the Thanksgiving holidays, my mother-in-law came for a visit. She flew from Massachusetts to Michigan. Flying these days is not for the faint of heart, especially when you get stuck with a change of planes at O'Hare. I think half of my gray hairs are a direct result of mad dashes through O'Hare to catch connecting flights. But I digress . . . So, my mother-in-law VERY rarely flies. … [Read more...]
Book Tour in Holland!
The week before Thanksgiving, I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit The Netherlands to meet Dutch readers. What an amazing trip! My Dutch publisher, Grace Publishing House, brought me to Holland to help promote the Dutch release of A Worthy Pursuit. We traveled to 9 different Christian book shops all over the country, and I had the chance to meet some fabulous shop owners, managers, … [Read more...]
We need to keep a little Christmas!
It's the first day of December. I haven't even thought about decorations. I needed a Christmas gift bag this morning for a luncheon I was attending where we exchanged gifts and I remembered everything was up in the attic and I don't have the upper-body strength to bring down the heavy door. I was home alone. I searched the house and found one sad little Christmas bag in the top shelf of my closet. … [Read more...]
It’s beginning to look a lot like— Oh wait. . .
If you've already decorated your house for Christmas and your tree is glittering from the corner with presents tucked lovingly beneath, then—while I really, really hate to do this, and it hurts me more than you know—we can no longer be friends. I find your level of perfection and preparedness irritatingly . . . well, irritating, and I must remove myself from your presence so that I can somehow … [Read more...]
Black Friday!
We stayed home for Thanksgiving weekend this year, so my Black Friday plans include: Sleeping late in my own bed. Exercising off some of the overabundance of Thanksgiving food I ate. Eating even more of said Thanksgiving food for lunch and/or dinner, now in the guise of leftovers. Finding time in front of my computer to catch up on work. Cajoling my kids into doing some of their … [Read more...]
A Writer’s Reasons to be Thankful
Today is Thanksgiving. A perfect time to stop and think about all of the reasons I'm grateful this year. There is so much I have to be thankful for. A wonderful husband. Four amazing kids. A house that more than meets our needs. A fulfilling job and the same for my husband. This year I signed a contract with my dream editor at my dream publisher...a long process, but another reason to be … [Read more...]
