Fun Interviews (and a Book to Win)

July 12, 2021 By Deborah Raney

[AND THE WINNER OF BRIDGES IS…Betsy Hale! Congratulations, Betsy. Please e-mail me at debraney@mac.com for details on how to get your book.]

Since in-person conferences, book signings, and other gatherings have been so slim (to none!) this past year, it’s been extra fun to be part of some Zoom interviews recently.

Yesterday, my Books & Brew interview with author Andrew Huff went live on YouTube. Andy is such a fun interviewer, and his special feature of sharing a cup of his guest’s favorite coffee or tea while we chat is just short of brilliant. Plus, it was fun for me to get to sing the praises of a favorite local coffee shop with viewers!

My coffee bar was a fun backdrop for my conversation with Andrew Huff of Books & Brew.
Click on the image to watch our Books & Brew chat!
Click on the image above for more info on Andrew’s books.
It was fun to give a shout-out for my favorite local coffee shop and coffee roaster, Red Banner in Cape Girardeau, MO!

Earlier this summer I got to visit with our own Cara Putman via her Book Talk feature. Cara is a fellow extrovert so we had no trouble thinking of things to talk about. She does such a great job with her chats and it was a delight to visit with her.

You all know our Cara but click on the image above to learn even more about Cara and her books.

I want to share a copy of Bridges—my newest novel and the first original indie offering from Raney Day Press—with one of our great readers here at Inspired by Life…and Fiction! All you need to do to enter this giveaway is comment on this post. I’ll choose one winner at random and announce it here tomorrow. (Be sure to check back and see if it is YOUR name I drew!)

Deborah Raney

DEBORAH RANEY's first novel, A Vow to Cherish, inspired the World Wide Pictures film of the same title and launched Deb’s writing career. Forty books later, she's still creating stories that touch hearts and lives. Her novels have won RWA's RITA Award, the ACFW Carol Award, the National Readers Choice Award, and the HOLT Medallion. She is also a three-time Christy Award finalist. Deb is on faculty for several national writers’ conferences and served on the executive board of the 2,500-member American Christian Fiction Writers organization for 18 years before retiring in 2022. She is a recent transplant to Missouri, having moved with her husband, Ken Raney, from their native Kansas to be closer to kids and grandkids. They love road trips, e-biking, Friday garage sale dates, and breakfast on the screened porch overlooking their wooded backyard.

I have seen bridges all over the US. I especially like the covered ones in Penn. Maybe because I went to the river as a teenager to abandon bridges to think. There were 2 near my home in Kansas. Thank you for your diligence in writing stories for those of us who only dream of being a writer.

A group of us women toured the covered bridges in Alabama back in the Eighties. I think there are fourteen of them. We found our own quiet spot and wrote short fiction that was inspired by the bridge and then compiled them into a booklet for each of us. Such a fond memory! I really like the cover of your new book and look forward to reading it.

Deb, You and I share a love of mugs. I just bought a new one during our recent trip to New Orleans, and my husband asked me which of my other mugs I’d “retire,” to make room for it. Thankfully, I was able to do some rearranging to make it fit my glass-front cabinet. I too, love the cover of Bridges, and I bet you and Ken rode your bikes through that bridge! Would love to read the book and add it to our book club reading list!

The bonus to having to do Zoom interviews is that those of us who missed the original interview can watch (& share) anytime! I do love in person, don’t get me wrong, but this is a good filler until life gets closer to ‘normal’ again.

I love your books! I just loaned my entire (paperback) Deb Raney collection to my coworker who has never read your books. 😁

I just now saw this interview/chat and loved it. I especially liked the part about being a panster within the boundaries of being plotter since that is how I write. I outline and know where I’m going but within a scene my characters have been known to take over and I love that. One time I found out my heroine’s sister was adopted through their dialogue. I stopped writing and stared at the computer screen and said, “I didn’t know she was adopted.” LOL I also loved hearing about your fave coffee in what I call Cape G. I have a fave coffee brewer in Madison WI and love their coffee so much.
