Next week, my parents will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, and we’ve pulled out all the stops to honor this achievement!
This past Saturday, the whole family (minus three grandchildren out of town) gathered in a suite at the Texas Rangers’ game. For all 51 years the Texas Rangers have been a club, our family has been a fan. We have spent many happy days at games throughout that time, but this eclipsed them all. Several home runs and another tick in the win column capped off the day. Fun was had by all.
Today, my sisters and I are taking our parents down memory lane—literally! We are driving them to Ft. Worth, where they both grew up and where they raised all of us. We will visit the sites of their childhood homes, the church where they met and married, the schools they attended and then, on the other side of town, the places important in our growing up years. Our goal is to trigger stories we might not have heard before. We will take notes as well as do some recording for our family records. (If you want to see some of this, be sure to follow on Instagram or my Facebook page to get that update!)
Finally, on June 28th, their actual anniversary, all my siblings and our spouses will join Mom and Dad for a nice dinner together.
Mom and Dad continue to be a picture of God’s grace to all of us in our marriages, including their grandchildren as they marry and raise their children.
We feel very blessed to be able to celebrate this milestone when so many don’t, but we are most grateful to be the recipients of a godly heritage.
Do you have any fun family celebrations happening this summer–or later this year?

What a coincidence! My husband and I will celebrate #54 on June 28! We didn’t plan anything big. Our kids are not close except for one son and his family about 35 minutes away. We don’t even go out to eat. We buy steaks and fix them at home.
Happy Anniversary to your folks.

Steaks at home are awesome! Enjoy. And congrats on 54 years. I love the legacy of long-married couples who show us that, by the grace of God, marriage can survive.

What wonderful memories you continue to make with your family! We will celebrate 60 years next May and we’ve recently moved from Alabama to Austin to be near our children. Our granddaughter, her husband and our great granddaughter live in Fort Worth. I hope our celebration next year will continue to make memories for all of us. Happy Anniversary wishes to your parents.

How special! My parents celebrated their 54th this year. We did have a big party for their 50th, if they both make it to their 60th maybe we’ll do it again. It’s not a very common thing these days.

No, it isn’t. We figured each “big” number from now on needs to be celebrated!

Happy Anniversary Blessings to your parents! They look too young to be celebrating their 60th! I love how you are celebrating their lives together with the trip to Fort Worth! What a blessing for all of you! Enjoy!

Well, my mom was 18, about to turn 19, so yes, pretty young. (My dad is 7 years older.) Still, we feel very blessed to still have them both here and are trying to soak up these years with them.

Happy Anniversary to your parents! Gathering everyone for a ballgame looks like a lot of fun. My parents observed their 60th in 2020, which meant we couldn’t do much, although we did visit. This year’s big celebration, however, is in 2 weeks, when we attend our daughter’s masters degree event at the University of Copenhagen! Graduations in Europe aren’t the big blowouts we have in the States, but we are going. 🙂 It’s bound to be interesting, along with visiting the Little Mermaid and enjoying Danish pastry.

Congrats to your mom and dad! I was a librarian at Arlington Public Library. Our church in Duncanville used to attend the faith and family nights at the Ranger Ballpark.

I think we went to some of those, too. We spent a lot of summer nights in my childhood sitting out in the outfield bleachers–I think the tickets were like $2–with our own food brought in in coolers. Can I just say . . . it was much nicer in an air-conditioned stadium!

I love the way you’re celebrating them. A get-together at a Ranger game + a walk down memory lane!

We just got home from our “Ft. Worth tour.” We had so much fun seeing things that were still there, talking about things long gone. We heard many things we’d never heard before! 🙂

This is wonderful, D’Ann! May they celebrate many more! Ken’s grandparents celebrated their 82nd anniversary before Grandpa’s death at 101 so 60 is just getting started! 😉
