New Release–and a Giveaway!

September 19, 2018 By D'Ann Mateer

A new release always leaves me a bundle of nerves. Yes, there is excitement. And the pride of work completed. But there is also the nail-biting (literally!) suspense of how it will be received by those readers who have enjoyed your previous books, by those who are new to your work, by . . . anyone, really. And when you have been both author and publisher, those emotions rise to a whole new level of crazy.

So it is with much trembling and great joy I announce that Time Will Tell, my second Coast-to-Coast Brides novella, is now available for purchase—both as an ebook and a paperback! (Cue fireworks!) If you enjoy historical fiction and quick read, I hope this will be right up your alley. As always, I am so grateful for my readers, old and new. Here’s a quick summary of the book:

Time Will Tell

Returning home after two years at the Buffalo Ladies’ Seminary, Annis Jackson believes God has blessed her with the perfect homecoming: a whirlwind romance with a man she’s loved from afar during her time at school. Except the object of her affections, Hugh Hylton, is related to her father’s most bitter enemy, a man determined to see Toledo firmly in the grip of the state of Ohio and the very one funding Hugh’s newspaper venture.

After several years of newspaper work in Buffalo, New York, Hugh Hylton jumped at his uncle’s offer of financial help to start a newspaper on the opposite shore of Lake Erie. And when he discovers during the steamship voyage to his new home that the woman he’s been dreaming about for the past year, Annis Jackson, loves him back, his future seems secure. He arrives in Port Lawrence, part of the newly named town of Toledo, ready to approach her father and declare his intentions toward her.

But Annis fears Hugh doesn’t understand the depth of the personal conflict over the positioning of Ohio’s state line and persuades him to conceal their relationship until she can prepare her father to accept Hugh in spite of his family connections. Then the Michigan militia arrives in the Toledo Strip, determined to prevent Ohio elections, and the situation gets out of hand, making their secret more difficult to guard. Suddenly the future of the newspaper—and their relationship—is as unstable as the fate of Toledo itself.

Will Hugh and Annis survive their feuding families? Only time will tell.

To celebrate Hugh and Annis’s story, I’m giving away both a print copy and a kindle copy of Time Will Tell. To enter, leave a comment and tell me what aspect of the story most intrigues you and which format you want to be entered to win—print or kindle. I’ll announce the two winners at the bottom of this post on Friday, so be sure to comment while you are here!

[AND THE WINNERS ARE . . . Una Ireland (print) and Betti Mace (kindle)! Congratulations, ladies. Look for an email from me so I can get those books to you! And thank you to everyone who stopped by and commented. I appreciate your support!]

I’d not heard of the Ohio-Michigan conflict before your novella, so that aspect intrigues this history nut.

(Preferably print copy, but I’ll accept a Kindle version as well)

It makes a bit of dry history come to life, doesn’t it? 🙂

  7. Jennifer Black says

I am intrigued by the location of the story, as I grew up in NW Ohio. So it will be exciting to read more of the history behind the Toledo war.

Congratulations. This sounds like a wonderful book. I love history romances. I would love to read this as I know nothing about this conflict in history. It is intriguing that there is also a family situation also.

    • Anne Mateer says

Family situations certainly increase the tension in a book for most of us! 🙂

The battle over the state line is fascinating, and of course a romance with all those strikes against it is always a good read. I’d love a Kindle version!

Congratulations on the release of “Time Will Tell”! It sounds amazing and a book that I would love to read.

I’d love to read the story of Hugh and Annis’ love. It’s fascinating to see true love shine through despite all the adversities that family, friends and the world around them throw at them. Life is never easy, but true love will find a way to make it through to the end. After all, anything worth having is worth fighting for.

If I were fortunate enough be selected, I would love a print copy of “Time Will Tell”.

    • Anne Mateer says

      September 19, 2018 at 8:37 am

Yes, we do love a romance that endures through hardships!

  11. Betti Mace says

    September 19, 2018 at 8:35 am

I have often wondered how the state lines were decided upon as they don’t nearly always follow a river or such. I wonder whether families were sometimes in different states when the lines were drawn… Thanks for the giveaway – a kindle copy would be great.

    • Anne Mateer says

      September 19, 2018 at 8:38 am

Yes, I had no idea either before researching this bit of history, but that’s what surveyors did–set map lines. Only they didn’t always get their lines in correct proportion to major landmarks, like lakes. 🙂

  12. Jan Hall says

    September 19, 2018 at 8:48 am

    Feuding families.

    • Anne Mateer says

      September 19, 2018 at 1:42 pm

Kind of a timeless theme, isn’t it? I mean all the way back to before Romeo and Juliet . . 🙂

My favourite element of a story is the romance😋💖 I also love learing new things, especially in historical novels. They seem to make the past come to life!I’d love a print version if I do win but I’ll accept an ebook version as I’m an international reader😉 Thanks for this awesome opportunity!💜

    • Anne Mateer says

(Kindle or Book to be honest as I love both)

    • Anne Mateer says

      September 19, 2018 at 1:44 pm

You are so sweet! Yes, I have a tendency to write characters who already have faith but have an aspect of that needs refining, as we all do! 🙂
