Setting Out on A New Adventure

November 14, 2018 By Dani Pettrey

Hi friends,

This week I’m sharing about a new adventure I’m about to embark on. I’m thrilled to announce the first book in my Coastal Guardian series, The Killing Tide, is officially available for pre-order!

I’m extremely excited about this series not just because I’ve fallen in love with the characters and I can’t wait to introduce them to you, but because I’ve loved the setting for the series for years. The Killing Tide is based in beautiful and scenic Wilmington, North Carolina.

Have you been? If you haven’t, you’re missing out on a treat. My family and I have been visited North Carolina’s beaches for close to seven years now and we look forward to our annual July 4th getaway all year long.

As in summer’s past, we took time to visit the picturesque, river-front town of Wilmington so I could do some hands-on research for the series.

We took a lovely guided historical tour on the Cape Fear river.

We visited the local Coast Guard station as the Coastal Guardian series features the Coast Guard Investigative Service. It’s such a unique and fascinating service. I can’t wait to share it with you. My inspiration for the head of the unit—Noah Rowley—had a cameo as a CGIS agent in my previous novels Still Life and Blind Spot. You can check out Brenden Fehr, the actor and model who inspired Noah on his website HERE.

Question for you?

What’s your favorite setting for a book?

Blessings,

Dani

I love the concept of the Coast Guard Investigative Service, Dani! With the huge popularity of the NCIS franchise on TV for the naval side, this is sure to be a winner with readers. And I love your cover – spooky yet beautiful at the same time.

I can’t wait to look at Wilmington with new eyes next time I’m there! Since my sister moved to NC 5 years ago, I visit regularly and we always make a trip to Wilmington (mostly to tour old houses and get ice cream). I may have to schedule next year’s trip around release day so I can truly immerse myself in the setting! I’m not sure I have a favorite setting for the books I read… but I definitely enjoy visiting all of the locations I’ve read about! I have a bookish bucket list of travel destinations!
