This February has a couple of important dates for me. So naturally I want to share them with my friends on Inspired by Life and Fiction. First, next Monday, February 9th, my 97th book releases. To Find Where She Belongs is book #5 in the British Are Coming series. I loved writing this story, and early readers are loving it too. While I never admit to having a favorite book (all were … [Read more...]
Spinsters, An Excerpt, and a Giveaway
In less than two weeks, Taming Lady Temperance will release and introduce you to the Secret Society of Spinsters. I've always been drawn to the spinster trope and the idea that it's never too late to fall in love. I also love feisty, independent heroines, and while not all spinsters fit that bill, most have some level of eccentricity that lends itself well to quirkiness, and I do enjoy quirky … [Read more...]
Hello, February!
I love February for so many reasons. 1. It’s my birthday month! Yay! Not only does it mean celebrating with friends and family, it also means several birthday perks from my favorite stores. Did you know some loyalty programs give you a discount or even an amount of money off a purchase in your birthday month? Check out stores like Kohl’s, Belk, Talbots, Pottery Barn/William-Sonoma, DSW, … [Read more...]
Do these names ring a bell?
Jack Daniel? What about Miss Mary Bobo? Or the town of Lynchburg, Tennessee? If not, hopefully they will soon. Tyndale Publishers is close to finishing the cover for my SEPTEMBER 2026 release In These Hills, my twentieth novel. As soon as I have the cover, I'll share. Until then, here's the back cover blurb . . . I'm not just excited to share this story with you, I'm … [Read more...]
Solomon and his ramblings
I've never paid too much attention to the book of Ecclesiastes, and have even heard that Solomon was a little off his rocker when he wrote it near the end of his life. By then, of course, he had been pulled away from his devout love of God by his foreign wives, who influenced him to do all sorts of terrible and idolatrous things. But Ecclesiastes is chock full of wisdom--it's just a sort of … [Read more...]
Reader Retreat Fun
Hi friends, and happy Wednesday! I’m still on a high. I got to spend the better part of last week with my people—readers and fellow writers. It was Lynette Eason, Gabrielle Meyers, and little ol’ me, along with a fabulous group of readers. I had the BEST time. It was flawlessly organized by Mindelynn of Read Far and Wide. Mindelynn is organized, creative, so fun to be around, and downright … [Read more...]
Always Learning…and Writing
I wanted to make sure you’ve all heard of the upcoming Going Deeper Conference, created for authors to improve their craft and better tackle those (dreaded) marketing tasks. I attended two years ago and it truly was a super-valuable conference at a super-affordable price. (And no, I’m not getting any kickbacks for this! :) ) Misty Beller’s workshops alone are worth the price! If you are a … [Read more...]
Let it snow!
Snow day! I know many of you are in the huge 2000-mile swath of snow covering the U.S. We didn't get as much snow as I was hoping for here in Southeast Missouri, but it's the most we've had since moving here. While my heart goes out to all those who have to get out in this sub-zero weather, I am absolutely loving the snow! Two red foxes walked through our backyard and left footprints in … [Read more...]
Georgia Book Festival
At the Reader Rendezvous in the fall of 2024, wonderful reader Beckie (of the ByTheBook Blog) asked me if I'd be interested in coming to Georgia to speak at the festival she helps organize. My immediate answer was, "YES!" Fast forward more than a year, and I'll soon be traveling to Georgia to make good on that yes. In honor of America's 250th birthday, the Perry Page Turners are calling … [Read more...]
Fort Worth Rodeo
I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. My dad generally wore boots, jeans, and a cowboy hat, even though he wasn’t a rancher. Most of the guys I knew drove pickup trucks. And every year we attended the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Jeff and I have lived in Dallas for almost 40 years now. I haven’t been back to the rodeo in Fort Worth probably since when my kids were little. Or before they … [Read more...]
