Author Confession: A Strange Reading Quirk

April 1, 2016 By Jody Hedlund

A popular question I’m asked in interviews and when I go to speaking engagement is: What do you like to read? (Or who are your favorite authors?) As a matter of fact, I recently had the chance to meet with a book group who’d chosen to read my Luther and Katharina book (waves at all the lovely ladies!), and they asked me that very question. “As a historical writer, do you read a lot of other … [Read more...]

Ebooks or Paper? Do You Care?

March 10, 2016 By Cara Putman

The other day I woke up dreaming about the ebook v. paperback debate. It’s something authors do. Something readers probably understand. I am a give-me-a-physical-book-I-can-hold kind of reader. You see, while I’m an author I adore books! It’s not unusual for me to inhale two or three a week while managing the rest of my life including homeschooling, lecturing, and writing. Dime Novels – The Birth of the Paperback

March 3, 2016 By Karen Witemeyer

Right around the start of the Civil War, Erastus and Irwin Beadle published a new series of cheap paperbacks entitled Beadle's Dime Novels. Their debut novel - Malaeska, the Indian Wife of the White Hunter, … [Read more...]

Audio Books: The New Reading Experience (and why you should give them a try!)

February 19, 2016 By Jody Hedlund

No doubt about it. Audio books are growing in popularity. The Wall Street Journal calls the popularity an “explosion.” An article in The Telegraph in 2015 said: “Sales of audio books have doubled in the last five years, thanks to the popularity of digital downloads.” In fact, according to the American Publishers Association, audio books saw a 19.5 percent rise in unit sales over just the past year … [Read more...]

What have you been reading?

February 16, 2016 By Tamera Alexander

This is what I've been reading, along with the first sentence in each book. I just LOVE reading first sentences, do you? Me Before You by JoJo Moyes First sentence: "There are 158 footsteps between the bus stop and home, but it can stretch to 180 if you aren't in a hurry." I just finished this Sunday night. This was my first of JoJo's books, but it will by no means be my last. I loved it … [Read more...]
